I'm getting ready to upgrade my desktop. I'd like to use 27" all-in-one HP. Problem is most of these AIO's have built in graphics using core5 or 7 processors. Most sales people don't recommend this type of graphics for gaming. Does anyone have experience using FSX? Or alternative systems keeping the AIO method? Also, I'm waiting till Oct 27 for Win 8. Hopefully FSX works in Win8.

There are several AIO PCs which have got a dedicated graphics chip. Most are made by ASUS and HP, so I recommend you check their websites to find a computer which would suit you.

Don't worry about FSX not working on Win8. I currently use Win8 Release Preview as my main OS and FSX runs just fine.

I am afraid that will not be the case. FSX will eat that rig for breakfast and ask for dinner.

FSX is still a recourse monster and requires a powerfull monster to run it really well.

All-in-one PC's are sub par when it comes to gaming. The statement is not only restricted to FSX but other games too.

It is always best to buy your own parts and build & if you're not comfortable with that then get a quote on a custom build gaming rig from your local PC store.

Once again, avoid the mass mart type of PC stores, those guys often know very little about high performance rigs. They put together and fix low end stuff used to play tetris and draft spreadsheets.

The last time I compared build-my-own to a ready-to-run pc of similar components, the difference was under $100, and if I factored in the value of my time, it was not the best choice for me. With an IT job, an active family, and my own other interests, my time is valuable to me. Maybe do-it-yourselfers have lots of spare time, are single, and get more enjoyment out of building a computer. Not me. I could change my own oil, grow my own tomatos, and pickle my own cucumbers. But I choose not to spend my time that way. Most pc vendors do sell high-performance rigs these days. Getting one that's ready-to-run IS of value to many people. Doing some careful shopping and price comparisons showed me that build-it-yourself could save a little bit of $$, but not that much.

I guess to each his own yes.

Some take their gaming rigs more serious then others and wish to have the satisfaction of "this I have done".

Nothing wrong with going to a gaming rig store and have the custom build PC made for you to save time.

Some people really just don't have time to research parts, order and build.

I run a rather large consultation practice, married, game at night is religion, weekends I spend surfing (mornings) & kite surfing (Afternoon). In between I also am an avid fresh water fisherman (Trout/tiger fish) and I still prefer building the rig myself.

Like I said to each his own, my initial message was a custom build (be it your own build or store build), always better then these sub par factory build machines.

Thanks chaps for the input. I guess I'll stick with the AIO model, but look for one with a discrete graphics card and opt for as much computing power as I can get, plus max out the memory.

would still like to know who has a setup which really runs fsx well....full autogen....no stutters, even in cities.....stable..good frames, etc.... Grin

You are 110% correct.

There is no such set-up that could run FSX well with all sliders to the max.

Ofcourse it is well known that FSX was badly coded, no amount of hardware can fix that. Not when it was released nor now, new technology could only reduce the effect.

Quite frankly, It is somewhat sad that a PC which run (Battlefield 3/Crysis series/GW2/Witcher2/COD) with extreme high FPS on ultra settings cannot run an old product such as FSX on ultra.

Heck FS9 runs better on new hardware then FSX, so old program VS new technology is not an excuse.

Atleast things are much better, FSX runs smooth with ample FPS with decent settings (I have a cfg for commercial flights and another for GA flights).
