I recently downloaded the FS2004 Beech/Rutan Starship package.  All appears well except that has a double trail of smoke coming from the wingtip areas.  I tried "I" to cut off, but now luck.  Anyone know how to eliminate this irritation?

Paul, it was probably intended as vapor trails, but it is coming out as thick smoke, and it is present from takeoff through climb, cruise, descent, and landing.  It never cuts off.  It really is quite unrealistic.

I was going to give it a try, downloading, this morning, but it would have taken up to 2 hours to download its 70 MB...
Seems like everyone wanted it!
...so I gave up.. Undecided...!

I'll try again when its a bit quieter!... Wink...!

Paul...I like; "Quieter"!... Grin...!

I located the original thread where the OP announced the upload of the Starship, and have PM'ed him asking for a fix or workaround. Hopefully he'll come through; I downloaded the package and am itching to try it, sans the belching black smoke that would definitely attract the attention of the FAA, TC or any other Nosy Nate wanting to know the 411...

Alas,

The smoke meant fire ....... fire meant burning wings ...... burning wings meant burning airplane.  Cry

The "Rock Star" version caught on fire upon landing on my last trip, and is no longer in my hanger.

Adios amigo.  We hardly knew ye!

You mean, as in the classic CFS 2 "flamer" after a couple well placed rounds in the wing root of a Zeke?
Oooh... maybe I ought to stick with Stoney's version instead, with KM's custom panel...  Shocked

Speaking of which... are you of the opinion that Mike's FDE's are pretty true to life, or are Bob Chicilo's mods more realistic? I made a custom panel for Mike's C337 and I like the way it flies, but with that new Carenado C337 I don't know whether or not to make the jump.

Sorry for the hijack; we now return you to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress...  Smiley

I assume we're talking about this file --> http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=starship2000fl.zip&x=20&y=16

I've tried it in FS9 & FSX. It works fine in both with no sign of the smoke you describe.

When I installed the Starship when it was first uploaded to Sim V, the "smoke" trail appeared (only in the spot plane external view).
Running it again today, the trail no longer appears, so I assume the designer may have since modified the Model/File!

Thank you SO much for the info.  I was beginning to think something was really wrong with my system.  I, too, downloaded soon after it was posted.  I will re-download and see if that pesky air pollution clears up!  Thanks again for your input.

Fozzer,

Thanks again for the tip and heads up about the package possibly being modified.  I downloaded the Starship package again and the pesky smoke is now gone.  Good observation. Wink

Sorry about this. After unzipping this project, and taking it off the shelf, some files went corrupt/missing. My Dad and I have been trying to patch it up. We are a little rusty,so a couple things got missed. Those wingtip vortices were supposed to just kick in under high G turns.

The Starship is a Mike Stone model, correct? I had it in several colors and liked it a lot. Then bad things happened. It is lost...

No. This is a new model. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=starship2000fl.zip&x=20&y=16

None of Mike Stone's aircraft had a VC. All his aircraft can be downloaded here --> http://www.gjsmith.net/Mike-Stone/index.htm
