Does anybody have "Virtual Sailor 7" ?

There seems to be a lot of add-on ships, scenery, etc which may indicate a large following. Is this the case?

How does it compare with "Ship Simulator 2008" ?

I'm thinking of getting it but first wanted to see what the experience of others has been.

Please let me hear from you.

I've got VS7 and have had it and earlier versions for about 6 years. Graphically it's not bad but is beginning to look old nowadays. I've never had Ship Simulator.
There's no racing or competitions in VS7 (except I think online) so i  just stooge around solo for pleasure.
The wind, waves and swell are very well done and fully adjustable, so it's a great way to learn sailing and you're liable to get seasick.
It's dirt cheap, you buy via download and there are dozens of free addon boats and subs including this one-
