Hello, I am having a bit of a problem with several aircraft for FS2004. The Swift, Stinson, and Luscombe have gray sections of the texture, like part of the texture is missing. I checked the folders, they do not APPEAR to be missing, but again, I am not a modder or repainter. The section of the vertical stabilizer where you would expect to see the tail number is where the gray rectangles appear and on these old planes like the Luscombe, the top of one wing and the bottom of the opposite wing is almost all gray on all paint schemes.
Any ideas?
Thank you for your time,
Adam

Hi Adam. It would help if you're more specific. Any chance of file names or links to the pages they're posted on?

Since you do not give us specific info like exactly what addons you are using and the sim you are using them in (you say they are for FS9, but not that you are using them in FS9) all we can do is guess.

I will guess that all these planes are made by Bill Lyons and what you are seeing is missing gauges that display the reg number on the planes exterior.

Unlike most addons these planes allow you to change the reg number the same way you can change the default planes reg numbers.

For the addons to work properly you have to have the needed gauges installed.

But I'm just guessing here.

cheers,
Joe

You know, not giving the links to the specific planes was an oversight!  Grin
Whoops, well here are them now:
Luscombe is the top one
http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=Luscombe+FS2004&x=0&y=0
Stinson was part of a combo pack I cannot find
The Piper Apache also had this issue (I forgot about it)

Swift:
http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=FS2004+Globe+Swift&x=0&y=0

Paul, I actually just fly in FS2004 at the moment, for a while I did BOTH, but because I was doing FS2004 more I zipped up everything for FSX.

Sorry about the blonde moment folks!

Tailwinds,
Adam

It's a common oversight that causes much frustration for you & anyone trying to help. I threw my crystal ball away many years ago. Tongue

As Joe mentioned earlier, the common denominator with the aircraft on your list is that they're all Custom Classics by Lynn & Bill Lyons. Most of these aircraft are ex-payware & they all have auto-installers which will install the aircraft & associated extras. These are one of the few FS developers whose auto-installers I trust. For whatever reason I suspect you're missing some of the gauges. Running the auto-installer again should fix the problem. I suggest you try one first to see if it works.

I manually installed the PA23 Apache from your link & deliberately left out the gauges. While I can see the problem in the aircraft selection preview window there's no blank texture in the sim itself although the N number does not display. (This might depend on your graphics card and/or display settings.) The missing gauge in this case is named custom.cab. ...

PS. The Stinson Reliant is part of the Pietenpol Air Camper package. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=stinr.zip&categoryId=&filename=...

Ahah thank you Hagar! When I have a break on my aircraft design project I will try the auto installer, sorry again about leaving links out.
I completely forgot the Stinson came with the Air Camper.

Thanks again,
Adam

Please tell us if my suggestion works. Joe deserves any credit, not me. I didn't know about those special N number gauges.

Well, I used the installer to install straight into the main FS9 directory as the readme suggests for these aircraft and still get these missing textures as shown by Hagar on all the aircraft. I think I might be missing this special N number gauge for these aircraft. I have no idea what it is, what file type it is, or where it would be though.

Adam. I suggested trying one first. If it didn't work for one it's unlikely to fix the others. I also gave you the gauge file name for the PA23  in my shot - custom.cab. If you ran the auto-installer for the PA23 you should find this file in the FS9\Gauges folder.

I'm beginning to think your problem is caused either by your graphics card or your display settings. Have you installed the FS9.1 update? http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=9727

Just for clarification, do you see these gray blocks in the sim or only on the plane selection screen?

I see them in the plane selection screen, but the planes all look OK in the sim.

I have tested your download links on 2 computers , one with Win XP and an ATI card, another with W7 and an nVidia card.

Actually I see them in the plane selection screen until I "Go Fly" then if I go back to the selection screen the reg numbers display as the gauges have then been initialized.

cheers,
Joe
