Quote:
A political thriller advancing the theory that it was in fact Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who penned Shakespeare's plays; set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her.

Good fiction, bad history.  This theory pops up every few years but the Bard's identity hasn't been shaken in 500 years.

Quite likely. The Bard has always been an enigma. The truth is that very little is known about the man named William Shakespeare. In fact nobody knows what he really looked like. http://www.william-shakespeare.info/william-shakespeare-pictures.htm

My daughter lives near Stratford-upon-Avon. It's a beautiful old market town that relies on tourism based on what could be a myth for its prosperity. With about 3 million visitors a year it would obviously not be in the town's best interests to allow the legend of its most famous resident to be debunked.

You can read the complete works of William Shakespeare here ---> http://shakespeare.mit.edu/
Call me an ignorant pleb but try as I might I never understood why the plays attributed to him are so highly regarded throughout the World. I must be missing something. Sorry Mark. Tongue
