In an attempt to create a Quick  Launch Icon for Gmax on theTool Bar I right clicked on the C;\Documents and Settings\ User Name\ Start Menu\ Programes folder, instead of the  specific Program Gmax which I desired. The result was that all the original icons of games folders inclusive of the windows programes on the Desktop were modified and are displayed as Link Icons only,to my dismay. I realised that what did was a wrong operation made in a haste. Now I want all the original icons to be restored to the Desktop replacing Link icons. I dont know how to do this. My knowledge on computer operations are very poor.I need appropriate guidence from you, friends. Thakns in advance for the helping me.

Have you tried a system restore to a point before the mishap?

in WinXP....... right click the icon and select PROPERTIES.

look for CHANGE ICON.

browse to the .exe file for the program that you want that ICON to be associated with, and select it.  ...... you just changed the icon.

OR!!!

DELETE ALL ICONS 1 AT A TIME. Go to where the .exe is located in your computer for the program that you are deleting the icon for ... RIGHT CLICK.. SEND TO DESKTOP (create shortcut).   1 at a time, you will restore your icons.

yeah i know that both are a lot of work, but you have to do it manually.  System restore will NOT fix your problem.
