Hey all.

I'm looking for a few planes

Republic F-84 Thunderjet
Lockheed F-94B Starfire
Douglas F3D Skyknight

there are FS2004 versions of all three of these but i'm not sure of what is needed so that they will work in CFS2

Also looking for repaints for

RAAF NO 77 Squadron for the ALPHA_TR P-51D or any of the other models (VBs for example) going with the ALPHA_TR P-51D version cuz its the newest and i like how it flies Smiley

I'm considering doing a campaign for the RAAF NO77 Squadron. using the Mustang for the first part and the Meteor for the 2nd part. If anyoe is already doing this please let me know.

if i can get the mustang skin i'll try to do atleast a mission for the RAAF No77 Sqd. (I'll have to get all of the proper permissions first but i'll cross that road later)

Ty all

For some reason these three aircraft have been remarkably unpopular in CFS2.   I'm not really sure why, but they have not had much attention.  Undecided

I have the F-84 on my list of convert from FSX/FS2004, as there are a couple of nice ones.  I can't get excited enough about it to invest the hundreds of hours needed to build one from scratch.  I used a basic AI in the Fox Four campaigns...one that looks OK at a distance, but fails to please at close range.    Roll Eyes

There was a Skynight converson from Alpha's FS9 version out there on one of the other sites, but it got wiped out in a hack attack.  Cry

There's only one F-94 and that Ito's in FS2004, and he has barred any conversions of his work.  Tongue

thats a shame. if you read the history of these planes and the squadrons that have flown them they get very interesting. well i could use the F-80 for the F-94 since they both came from the T-33. I just dont have the templates to do a proper repaint. and making one would be a pain. it could be done. hummm...

any word on the RAAF mustang?

Both the Skynight and the F-94 were used as nightfighters and truthfully would be of very limited use in missions and campaigns.  Cry

You have triggered a project for me.   And I started the conversion of Jens' F-84G from FSX/FS2004.  The conversion of the model was a success with all animations intact, and I have been flying her around the Kunsan Beach Club.  Proper conversion of the textures, modification of the CFG, AIR and the writing of a proper DP will take some time...but I think she will be worth the time and effort.  She is shown here in Jens' original Korean War skin, which look semi-transparent here because they are in DXT3 format, and I will  have to convert them to DXT1 or 565 for them to show as beautifully as Jens created them.  Smiley

have you ever used the image tool the comes with FS2002 Pro? i use it alot on the bitmaps and adding the alpha channels and such ( atleast i did on my other comp).
that looks great BTW Smiley
i wonder what would look good for the droptanks. Did the wing tanks detach on the F-84? I'll have to look in my books.

No.  I use the freeware DXTbmp utility available in the CFS2/Utilities section.   It will link to whatever graphics/paint program you happen to use.   I never even knew about the FS2002 Pro image tool...though I have the program.  Huh

Jen's has some restrictions placed on repaints, though they are very liberal.  Cool

The tip tanks do not drop.   They can be removed, but cannot be jettisoned in flight.  However, in practice, you hardly ever see them off.  Cool

D and E versions were in Korea. the E having the most modifcations before the swept wing F model. the G came in mid 1952.
armament of the F-84: 6 MGs , 2,100Lbs(1,814kgs) bombs. in one of my other books it has it as 6,000Lbs (2,722Kgs).
though the site here -
http://www.korean-war.com/KWAircraft/US/USAF/republic_f84.html
puts them at 4,000LBS.

so my thinking is
C which was outdate and replaced before the war: 2100lbs
D-E: 4000lbs
G and newer: 6000lbs
thats just a guess. but it makes sense. the G had reinfored wings since it was designed to deliver tactical nukes.

Well, her textures have been converted.  She has a decent DP, but I'm probably going to have to build a set of droptanks for her.  Her 2D panel is going to require a lot of work because visibility is so hampered that you cannot fly from that view.  There is a great DVC, however.   Making real progress on the AIR and CFG as well, but a long way to go.  Tongue

She's just about finished.   Post her in a day or so.  The 2-D panel was impossible to use in CFS2 because of design issues.  However, I have replaced it with a very nice 2D.  The DVC is quite good and I have kept it as close to intact as possible by replacing FS2004 gauges with CFS2 compatible types.   The DP, AIR and CFG of course are all new.  Cool

Film at 11!  Wink

Bub is on it.   He's working some skin magic for a couple of versions of the F-84G in Korea.

Now I have to get on to a suitable 2D panel.  Undecided

Night missions are almost exclusively going to be intercept missions against intruders or around enemy airfields with your night fighter.....you can also set them just around dusk in the evening and at dawn in the morning.   They are interesting in that you have to use your radar to get very close to the enemy before you can actually see him.....just like in real life.  Cool

Night missions against ground targets are pretty much useless, even when we've put lighted moving vehicles on the roads.  Cry

Well, Bub has got the F-84G conversion skin as a WIP, and it shouldn't be too long until we get her uploadsed.

Then he's got the F3D in line outside the shop....and I'm working on a conversion of Greg Pepper's FSX HU16 Albatross for his airbrush....all of these being Korean War planes missing from our inventory.  Tongue

Yes, Greg Pepper's FSX HU-16 Albatross is the third Korean War era plane that has long been missing from CFS2.   The MDL converted directly to CFS2 with ease.

She's coming to a download site near you soon.  Cheesy

North American B-45, RB-45C Tornado
first USAF jet bomber i believe. was a better recon as it was reportedly able to out run the Mig 15. is there one(not includeing the FS98 one)?

Nah....she was almost 75mph slower than the MiG-15 according to the specs.  Wink

The FS98 example is the only one I've ever seen, and it is pretty crude.   There's never been a call for the plane.  If you used it in a mission, it would be an AI and a repaint of the FS98 plane would do nicely for that.  Roll Eyes

That panel was built for the Fox Four F-82 player aircraft, however, she has never made it past the AI stage in one of the campaigns.

There is one out there....I'll dig it up for you shortly....if you just have to have one.   If you just want an AI, there are two in the Fox Four downloads, a night fighter and a regular.  Cool

Hey, Bob, did you enjoy your sabbatical?  I checked in at the paintshop a couple of times, and found nothing but dried-up paint cans.   Starting to get worried about your whereabouts.  Wink

CAG, AKA Miss Ginger, is flexing her whip now that Spring has sprung, and is strongly suggesting that I get my backside into the yard for fertilizer, weeding and mowing duty.  I'm holding on to my keyboard with both hands though.  And I've just about gotten all of the WIP projects posted.  Grin

Enjoyed my vacation?  Had more to do than I wanted.  And, still have more.  I'll be hanging around and doing a few small things.  Still have some sheetrocking, spackling and painting to do.  Also, have to finish redoing the bathroom.  Then the home inspection before I recast the mortgage.  I'm going to need a vacation from my vacation.

Thanks, Bub.  VB did do two of those...one clean and one with radome.

Here are a couple of shots of the Fox Four AIs.....mine are flyable versions with Mike Eustace's panel.  I'll share these with anyone interested as well.  We actually used the day fighter version in one of the campaigns....Red Star, if I remember correctly.

I dont know why but by me the F-84G 51-10425 dont work and crash the Sim. Only way to utilise the plane is in free flights but in Quick combat crash CFS2.After insert the normal entries in the MDL list for the tanks and the plane I have try diverse posibilities, another sound, another panel, check DP file, check Airfile, check model folder, but no way. Selected as flyble the F-84G or as target of my MiG, but after load QC in both posibilities crash the CFS2.

This plane is original for FS2004, dont need as usual with many planes in FS2004 the module GaugeSound.dll?

First, try the revised F-84G MDL file here:

http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=TRconMDLrev-1.zip&x=19&y=9

It will probably fix your issue.  Cool

HOWEVER, some FS2004 conversions will never work in anything but Freeflight.   Though the F-84G is NOT one of those.  Wink

Secondly, I do not understand the question about  GaugeSound.dll.  Undecided

Perfect Tango_Romeo, work fine now. Many thanks.

Gaugesound. dll is a module utilised by some panels working with some special or old gauges in FS2004. His place is at the main folder of the Sim and not inside of the folder "modules".Can be also necessary sometimes with FSX.

Glad you got the 84G working.  What is very confusing is that some people have the problem that you encountered and some do not....there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.   Wink

No, that DLL is definitely not needed under any circumstances in CFS2....in fact, nothing from FS2004 is.  Cool
