Hey all.

I'm looking for a few planes

Republic F-84 Thunderjet
Lockheed F-94B Starfire
Douglas F3D Skyknight

there are FS2004 versions of all three of these but i'm not sure of what is needed so that they will work in CFS2

Also looking for repaints for

RAAF NO 77 Squadron for the ALPHA_TR P-51D or any of the other models (VBs for example) going with the ALPHA_TR P-51D version cuz its the newest and i like how it flies Smiley

I'm considering doing a campaign for the RAAF NO77 Squadron. using the Mustang for the first part and the Meteor for the 2nd part. If anyoe is already doing this please let me know.

if i can get the mustang skin i'll try to do atleast a mission for the RAAF No77 Sqd. (I'll have to get all of the proper permissions first but i'll cross that road later)

Ty all

For some reason these three aircraft have been remarkably unpopular in CFS2.   I'm not really sure why, but they have not had much attention.  Undecided

I have the F-84 on my list of convert from FSX/FS2004, as there are a couple of nice ones.  I can't get excited enough about it to invest the hundreds of hours needed to build one from scratch.  I used a basic AI in the Fox Four campaigns...one that looks OK at a distance, but fails to please at close range.    Roll Eyes

There was a Skynight converson from Alpha's FS9 version out there on one of the other sites, but it got wiped out in a hack attack.  Cry

There's only one F-94 and that Ito's in FS2004, and he has barred any conversions of his work.  Tongue

thats a shame. if you read the history of these planes and the squadrons that have flown them they get very interesting. well i could use the F-80 for the F-94 since they both came from the T-33. I just dont have the templates to do a proper repaint. and making one would be a pain. it could be done. hummm...

any word on the RAAF mustang?

Both the Skynight and the F-94 were used as nightfighters and truthfully would be of very limited use in missions and campaigns.  Cry

You have triggered a project for me.   And I started the conversion of Jens' F-84G from FSX/FS2004.  The conversion of the model was a success with all animations intact, and I have been flying her around the Kunsan Beach Club.  Proper conversion of the textures, modification of the CFG, AIR and the writing of a proper DP will take some time...but I think she will be worth the time and effort.  She is shown here in Jens' original Korean War skin, which look semi-transparent here because they are in DXT3 format, and I will  have to convert them to DXT1 or 565 for them to show as beautifully as Jens created them.  Smiley

have you ever used the image tool the comes with FS2002 Pro? i use it alot on the bitmaps and adding the alpha channels and such ( atleast i did on my other comp).
that looks great BTW Smiley
i wonder what would look good for the droptanks. Did the wing tanks detach on the F-84? I'll have to look in my books.

No.  I use the freeware DXTbmp utility available in the CFS2/Utilities section.   It will link to whatever graphics/paint program you happen to use.   I never even knew about the FS2002 Pro image tool...though I have the program.  Huh

Jen's has some restrictions placed on repaints, though they are very liberal.  Cool

The tip tanks do not drop.   They can be removed, but cannot be jettisoned in flight.  However, in practice, you hardly ever see them off.  Cool

D and E versions were in Korea. the E having the most modifcations before the swept wing F model. the G came in mid 1952.
armament of the F-84: 6 MGs , 2,100Lbs(1,814kgs) bombs. in one of my other books it has it as 6,000Lbs (2,722Kgs).
though the site here -
http://www.korean-war.com/KWAircraft/US/USAF/republic_f84.html
puts them at 4,000LBS.

so my thinking is
C which was outdate and replaced before the war: 2100lbs
D-E: 4000lbs
G and newer: 6000lbs
thats just a guess. but it makes sense. the G had reinfored wings since it was designed to deliver tactical nukes.

Well, her textures have been converted.  She has a decent DP, but I'm probably going to have to build a set of droptanks for her.  Her 2D panel is going to require a lot of work because visibility is so hampered that you cannot fly from that view.  There is a great DVC, however.   Making real progress on the AIR and CFG as well, but a long way to go.  Tongue

She's just about finished.   Post her in a day or so.  The 2-D panel was impossible to use in CFS2 because of design issues.  However, I have replaced it with a very nice 2D.  The DVC is quite good and I have kept it as close to intact as possible by replacing FS2004 gauges with CFS2 compatible types.   The DP, AIR and CFG of course are all new.  Cool

Film at 11!  Wink

Bub is on it.   He's working some skin magic for a couple of versions of the F-84G in Korea.

Now I have to get on to a suitable 2D panel.  Undecided

I'm bringing the F3D Skyknight to CFS2 as well.   She's in the early stages of conversion....but functioning in CFS2 now.  Cool
