Westwood set to replace Woods as World No. 1 on Oct. 31

Quote:
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) -- Lee Westwood is set to replace Tiger Woods  at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking on Oct. 31 after saying Sunday he does not expect to play again until November because of an ankle injury.

The Englishman will go top if he does not return before the end of the month, and Woods continues with his intention not to play again until the HSBC Champions event from Nov. 4-7.

Westwood has been struggling with a right ankle injury and finished joint 11th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship won by Germany's Martin Kaymer.

Asked when he might play again, Westwood said: "At the earliest probably HSBC, maybe Dubai (Nov. 25-28).

Woods has topped the rankings for over five years, since the week before the 2005 U.S. Open it Pinehurst, N.C. Woods will have been top for 279 weeks in the rankings published on Monday ....

With Woods, Westwood and Kaymer, along with Phil Mickelson, playing in the $7 million HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, any one of the four could become number one in the following week's rankings.

The rankings move as slow as the play.

Tiger out of world top 10

Quote:
Tiger Woods, still nursing a knee injury and his struggling game, fell out of the top 10 in the World Golf Ranking for the first time since the week before the 1997 Masters.

Woods dropped from No. 8 to No. 12 after a weekend off after The Players Championship, where he withdrew because of injury after a front-nine 42 in the opening round ...

I don't think he's hit bottom yet.

Seems like the public criticizes him way to much....

I mean you can't expect a person who plays 4 tournaments in one year to stay at #1 or let alone in the top 50 when the past two years he averages about 4 tournaments a year.  Roll Eyes

I'm not sure if it's just me but these World Rankings are a bunch of bullsh*t cause all they do is talk talk talk about Tigers rank when its pretty obvious a 5 year old can tell you whats gonna happen. You don't play, your not gonna be #1 anymore. Let alone even on the rankings.

He's played a total of 28 tournaments in the past 2 years. I really don't understand why the golf analysts like to go into depth on why Tiger isn't #1 or top 50. Look at how active he's been? 14 tournaments a year? And what 5 of those were on the PGA tour this season? It's just really irritating to hear "TIGER WOODS NOT IN PGA TOUR PLAYOFFS"....Like OBVIOUSLY he's not in the playoffs when he DOESN'T play.

I'm a HUGE fan of Tiger Woods and personally love the guy even after everything he's been through and the mistakes he's made I still think he's a great golfer, the best out there frankly and to say he isn't is idiotic but people need to let it go and move on. He's not the same as he use to be.... Who knows if he ever will be again but the news and media have to move on at one point and not bring him down anymore than he already is. Just let him play golf.
