Before I begin, as I said in an earlier post, I'm not looking to take any thing away from Sim V's fshost multiplayer sessions. I wish I was able to use fshost, (cause I know it would be a blast to fly around with you all, especially with you Fozzer!) but at this time I'm not able too, and for those also that can't hook up with fshost, well we have another choice. Which is, FSX Multiplayer using Gamespy.

I'm not looking to get into a debate on which multiplayer is better to use, it all depends on the user and what there system can handel. Same as 2004 players who have FSX, but can't run it as good as 2004, so they stick with 2004, bravo for them and God bless, may be sometime in the future we'll all be able to hook-up no matter what sim we fly with. But not to get off subject I do have to respond to this,

Quote:
Drawbacks:

-Notorious connection issues, which can either prevent users from connecting at all, or kicks users randomly off of FSX's multiplayer component.

This is not true at all, as I've been multiplayer flying going on about all most a year now, (as I look back in my log), using gamespy. 90% of the time I have no connection problem. Nor does the crowds I get and the 18 friends on my list, who all agree that the gamespy system is much better than the old MSN gamezone that was once used to support multiplayer, and just like any severs out there none of them are 100%,(was there not a problem with fshost just recently?.)What I'm saying is that it's going to happen This is just the way the system works, even my ISP can go to crap on me when I need it most, some times they well send and e-mail to let me know if the server will be down for maintance, but some times I have to call them to see what's up!
and now that I'm thinking about it my ISP can be more unpredectable than gamespy. So not to beat a deadhorse, IF you can't get on FShost  or Gamespy than you got other problems. I can't get on to FShost cause my ol'lady dosen't trust me Cry to play with her network to open the ports, and if you have a problem signing into gamespy, the work around is to change your default lobby,

If you have been having a problem logging in (most likely into the freeflight lobby) I belive it is most likely due to traffic on that part of the server,the freeflight lobby is always crowded, so I always login in the Fly-Ins lobby (you can change the lobby in your fsx cfg under multiplayer if you have trouble logging in):

[MULTIPLAYER]
AccoutUsername=angusmax
condAccoutPassword=0
DefaultLobby=Fly-Ins (or whatever lobby you want other than freeflight)

You still will be able to access the freeflight lobby if you want when you are logged in.

Theres 9 different lobbys to use, which are very much less used, but it seems everyone thinks they have to use freeflight.
Also if your kicked it could be that the host has to many spots open (stay away from any sessions that advertise more than 20 players).

A good host will give a 15 to 30min warning before they shut down the session, giving you a chance to land.

Some host aren't sure how to use the settings, so if collisions are on, or aircraft stress is on, and crash setting is to high, that will kick you, and if it's a busy day/night it could be a pain to log back in with out rebooting the sim.

and the only other time I get kicked is because of my darn ISP Angry

( also from what I've learned is something with Vista and the UIAutomationCore.dll? )

So with that said guys and gals, use what ever works for you!

I host a session called:    "WhyFlyAlone"

In the Fly-Ins lobby, using the same name I use here, Angusmax. As I'm semi retired an selfemployed, you never know when I'll be on, just look for me if you sign in. I'll also make an announcments on this site when able.

Happy flying and hope to see ya's in the air!

PS, I use ZULU time (Greenwich mean time, Universal time) because that's the way its done, so one person in one time zone, can coordinate with another person in another time zone, and another person in another time zone and so on and so on. ZULU time just keeps everyone on the same page as they say! And besides it's a pain in the a$$ changing your watch when you got to go thru 8 time zones! Grin

PPS  I'm heading to Las Vegas, Nevada  leaving from Rapid City, South Dakota around 23:00Z  or for you civillains out there, 17:00 mountain time, excuse me 5 o'clock in the afternoon here in the blackhils of the Dakotas Grin Grin
Seee Ya there or in the air!
Happy simming people  and God bless. Cool
