Question for Multiplayer Users (Read 859 times)

Would there be an interest in beginning a weekends-only flight tour starting around December 20th?
If not, what could be implemented to increase interest/awareness of SimV's currently declining multiplayer flight segment?

It seems as if interest is waning in the online aspects of the Microsoft FS series here on Simv, so I'm trying to think of ways to achieve those great 4 to 6 person (at least!) flights we have done long ago.

Obviously as of late many of us have been busy with other obligations over some weekends, but for at least the past two months, it's been quiet pretty much every weekend. Fozzer is a staple of the online scene, and I'm continuing to host flights when possible, but other than the two of us, it's rather dead. I can't commit all the time either lately (Paul can vouch for my short 15 minute hops lately when I find time), but I find it interesting that not a soul has been present for quite some time.

What's the current status and opinions of the SimV MP community, and what can be done in the coming months?

I suspect that some/all of our previously, regular Multiplayer Pilots from the recent past, are now spending their time setting up screen shots for the Screen Shot Forums instead... Cry...!

Maybe we would have more of the "newer" FSX Pilots join in our Multiplayer flights if only FSX was more "Multiplayer-friendly", regarding connections to the Server, in comparison to the ease of FS 2004 connections!... Roll Eyes...!

I suspect that many FSX Pilots give up trying!

I keep a regular look-out for our Multiplayer Tours and find them most enjoyable...
...and it gives me someone else to talk to for a while, whilst I am sat here on my lonesome, listening to the drone of the twin Continentals on my Beech Baron 58!... Grin...!
..and its always good for a laugh!

Paul...G-BPLF..FS 2004...FS Nav... Smiley...!

I try to participate in the flights, but they have been on Sundays lately, and I haven't been home (at the races Wink ). I've also lost a lot of time to schoolwork. It's too bad the FSX connection is such a hassel or I would go online everytime I fly (since FS 2004 is not my main sim, I don't do it now).

I've been missing our flights too. I'm going to be resuming the hoplist shortly though, so watch for me on the server.

Cool

There is an easy cure to all this FSX "Multiplayer" frustration, Brando... Cry....

You know what it is... Wink...>>>

Re-Install your trusty copy of the delightful FS 2004....

...and join us once again in the "on-line" skies... Cool...!

(The same goes for all you other FSX Blokes, as well)... Wink... Grin...!

Forget all that annoying FSX "Gamespy", on-line stuff, (or whatever its called), and join us on the simple FS 2004 Simviation Server.
http://cockpit.netfrag.org:81/

I have both Sims on my Hard drive: FSX for when I'm in a self-flagellation mood... Shocked..., and FS 2004 for my every-day, and on-line, enjoyable flights... Smiley...!

...simple...you know it makes sense!...Kiss...!

Paul...G-BPLF..FS 2004...FS Nav...and a 'phone line... Smiley...!

I have never yet managed to join in FSX Multiplayer since I purchased FSX when it was first released!
I gave up, long ago!

I'd love to join the flights again. Used to in the past when Jimbo did organise the tours. But family life and a busy job prevents me from flying in the weekends. Has been ages since I have finished a flight. Other things have more priority.

I notice that you haven't been on your usual, on-line, Washington/Alaska Bush Flights lately, Carlo... Sad...!

Providing that you are not using up your ISP's Monthly download allowance in constantly streaming Videos/Films/Music, etc, you should be OK, John....

My download allowance is 20 GB/Month max, and I never get anywhere near the total allowance with my simple Wired USB Modem.

Been using it for Multiplayer flights for the past 8+ years with no problems...Dial-up and Broadband... Smiley...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FS Nav...and a little "Zoom" wired USB Modem... Cool...!

I have to start making some time free for that. It's been too long. Problem is I can very rarely fly in the weekends. I either have to work at night which means I sleep during the day or there are family matters to attend to.

Paul,
I get 5GB of usage a month out of the 3 Usb Modem (mobile broadband), which is the pain in the backside, Plus it depends on the signal strength and if I get kicked off due to lack of network etc.

The average couple of hours of a night that i browse mainly takes around 10-20mb downloaded and around 5mb uploaded.. I know i can play one online game on it and for 3 hours of playing one night only used up just under 8mb due to not having to load any weather or extra addons.

John

p.s the only good thing about it is all the corect ports are open and I don't have any fiddly settings to play about with.

I think it's just a matter of when everyone's available for online flights. I've been working two jobs lately, going to school, and doing flight training and time building, so I've been packed. However, I always find myself on the computer any time after 11pm, sometimes earlier, and always check to see if anyone is online, only to find it empty as a desert.  Sad

I never flew many flights online with Paul or anyone else, except for Mitch, but they were all enjoyable and I really do miss them. Like I said, I'm online almost always after 11pm. I have a weird sleep schedule, so if anyone wants to set anything up after that time, then just let me know. Wink
