Talk about beating my head against the wall. I have had such ongoing trouble trying to texture map my aircraft. I’ve gone though tutorials on the web, and still they were hardly any help. Those systems worked – sort of – crudely. So after reloading Gmax, I noticed some document files in my directories. Scenery Tutorial??? Well, I’m not doing Scenery – I’m doing aircraft, wont need the scenery tutorial….. I just started going through it, and WOW, I’ve just discovered a ton more info and sure enough, doing texture mapping finally makes some sense. Wish someone had pointed me to that document a bit more assertively. Now to fix up those aircraft maps - - ->
Fast forward, this is a tower I made for Kerguelen Island (located between the Indian and Antarctic Oceans) while working though that tutorial. Flight Sim does not have any airports in that part of the world so I made a runway last year, now I am about to try to load a tower.
Let me know if anyone wants a copy of these files.

Nice! Glad you finally got over your texture tutorial hang-ups. After getting ahold of a copy of 3DS Max for relatively cheap, I discovered the wonders of mapping using the rendering options. There are so many things that save you time with a renderer. I think it's a bloody shame that they stripped that ability from Gmax.
Oh, well. Perhaps MS Flight will deliver us a new (and wholly more annoying) design program to stress over . . .
And Harold: you do realize that even in the real world there isn't a single airport on the whole of those islands? All travel is by boat.

No airport. That would explain why I never found one when exploring the island with Google Earth.
Still, this is no reason to not explore the island in flight sim. It is a "cool" place. On the other hand, flying an aircraft all the way from Australia to see the island takes too long (even very long with my Swift). I just found a flat spot and plunked two runways there. Nice spot to explore from.
