Hey guys, 2nd post here is a big question.

I have recently re-installed FSX on the new Pc and after that, all my Aircraft and then Ai Carriers.

On my old Pc I followed the same steps ( Same OS ect, Just more RAM ) and Ai Carriers worked fine.

Now though, I have tried reinstalling it 3 or 4 times, Clearing the registry and folders manually between installs. I have tried the Ip switch to no avail. I have even erased the FSX config in hopes of it rewriting a value. And after all of that it still does not show up in the Addons menu, Or even after pressing Shit+J

With that being said, any ideas?

I just wanna take off from a carrier someday before I die  Wink

I've just encountered this problem as well.  Huh

Is AI carriers v2,  a one time only install?

Everything worked perfectly, then I did a reinstall, and now nothing.  Sad

can you land on the carriers spawned by ai carriers 2?

regards

Steve

May the Mynd be with you.
So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs, but that is due to change Smiley

When it worked I could.

Now, just as the original poster stated, the menu option to even get them to appear is gone.

It's as though it's not even installed anymore.  Huh

It worked perfectly, until I did a reinstall of FSX & Aicarriers2.

Exactly, You can land and shoot from the deck as well.

And Shane, I have the exact same problem you do. I Emailed Lamont about it last, I will post my findings when I get an email back

x2

When I transferred everything over to a larger hard drive, my aicarriers just vanished. I figured something got lost in the transfer so I downloaded the latest version and tried to install but to no avail.

I Figured it out!   Cool

Not sure where the location will be if you use Vista or W7

but for XP, go to : C:\Documents and Settings\your user name here\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

open the file called EXE.XML with notepad,
  and make sure this entry is there:

And change this line :

<Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>

to this:

<Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>

Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
        <Descr>Launch</Descr>
        <Filename>EXE.XML</Filename>
        <Disabled>False</Disabled>
        <Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>
        <Launch.Addon>
                <Disabled>False</Disabled>
                <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
                <Name>AICarriers</Name>
                <Path>your path to aicarriers.exe goes here</Path>
                <CommandLine>-nogui</CommandLine>
        </Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

I looked in the zip file, and found the manual install folder, and it contained this information.
I compared what I had to the sample EXE.XML it provides in the manual install folder, and did the above to make mine match, and now it works again, just as it did before!

I forgot to mention this above, so I will add it after this post,

but on this line here, I changed the FALSE to TRUE:

<Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>

Give that a try and let me know.

It works perfectly for me now, and that is the ONLY thing I've done.

Edit. Not a thing in the addon menu but FSUPIC  Angry

It worked when I re-edited the Exe.xml once. Until I reloaded FS and then nothing. Are you running the new Nimitz pack as well ?

And just to double check here is my Exe.xml

Yes, I'm running the Nimitz, plus several other FSX ships, and using them successfully with aicarriers.

In your  FSX/scenery/world/scenery folder, is there a file called trafficCarriers.bgl?

And have you tried moving the AICarriers folder  into the main FSX folder?

Not sure why that would make a difference, but that's where mine currently is.
If you try that, don't forget to change the path in your EXE.xml file.  Wink

Aside from those two things, I don't see what would be different, other than that I don't have any other entries in my exe.xml like you do.

I was just comparing our exe.xml files, and just for the sake of trying it,

In the very fist time that this line appears in yours, the one before your REX entry:

<Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>

Try changing it to True and see what happens.

If it doesn't work, you can always change it back.  Wink

Ok, now this is just a theroy, but I'm betting this works.

In the line for the aicarriers entry make this change:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
     <Descr>Launch</Descr>
     <Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
     <Disabled>False</Disabled>
     <Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>
     <Launch.Addon>
           <Disabled>False</Disabled>
           <Name>Real Environment Xtreme - Weather Engine 2</Name>
           <Path>C:\Program Files\Real Environment Xtreme\rexwxengine2.exe</Path>
     </Launch.Addon>
     <Launch.Addon>
                <Disabled>False</Disabled>
                <ManualLoad>True</ManualLoad>Change this back to False
                <Name>AICarriers</Name>
                <Path>C:\Program Files\AICarriers\aicarriers.exe</Path>
                <CommandLine>-nogui</CommandLine>
    </Launch.Addon>
     </SimBase.Document>

I'm thinking, that the first one, is the only one that needs to be true, because I only have one entry, but you have two, so the first Entry is like the master on/off switch for all entries, while the second one is waiting for it to be manually turned on again, so if it's set to false, it should be on.
it's hard to explain what I'm thinking, but it makes great sense in my head.  Cheesy

I'll see if I can explain it better.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
     <Descr>Launch</Descr>
     <Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
     <Disabled>False</Disabled>
     <Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>This is causing the propmt when you start FSX
     <Launch.Addon>REX entry starts here
           <Disabled>False</Disabled>
           <Name>Real Environment Xtreme - Weather Engine 2</Name>
           <Path>C:\Program Files\Real Environment Xtreme\rexwxengine2.exe</Path>
     </Launch.Addon>REX entry ends here
     <Launch.Addon>AICarriers entry starts here
                <Disabled>False</Disabled>
                <ManualLoad>True</ManualLoadThis being set to True, may be what's keeping it from working
                <Name>AICarriers</Name>
                <Path>C:\Program Files\AICarriers\aicarriers.exe</Path>
                <CommandLine>-nogui</CommandLine>
    </Launch.Addon>AICarriers entry ends here
     </SimBase.Document>

Do you see where the first   <Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad> entry is compared to the second one within the addon entries?

The first one comes before the addons entries, while the second one is a part of the AICarriers entry.

So I'm thinking the first one, is causing the prompt to pop up every time you start FSX, because I'm getting the same thing.

But...

Since you have it a second time in the actual entry for AICarriers, having it set to false, is making it want to have a manual load again.

So hopefully by setting it to true, it will be on.

Understand what I'm getting at, or do I sound like a rambling mad man?  Grin

Another option could be, to remove that line completely from the AICarriers portion of the entry.  Wink

EDIT: Before I try this. IT should look like...

I don't know a whole lot about these xml things, so when I
get going on a thought, I get a little excited when the pieces start clicking together in my mind.

Sometimes, I know the answer, before I can think of the words to explain them.  Cheesy  Wink

Basically, what I said above, is your exe.xml should look like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
     <Descr>Launch</Descr>
     <Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
     <Disabled>False</Disabled>
     <Launch.ManualLoad>True</Launch.ManualLoad>
     <Launch.Addon>
           <Disabled>False</Disabled>
           <Name>Real Environment Xtreme - Weather Engine 2</Name>
           <Path>C:\Program Files\Real Environment Xtreme\rexwxengine2.exe</Path>
     </Launch.Addon>
     <Launch.Addon>
                <Disabled>False</Disabled>
                <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
                <Name>AICarriers</Name>
                <Path>C:\Program Files\AICarriers\aicarriers.exe</Path>
                <CommandLine>-nogui</CommandLine>
    </Launch.Addon>

Well. the good news is, we had it working for you.

Even if only for a short time.  Wink

I never messed with anything the Config.d folder.

I made all of my additions to the aicarriers.cfg file that was in the main folder with the aicarriers.exe.

I have pretty much completely rewritten every bit of that file to use my addon ships instead of the ones it came with.

I've not seen such a temperamental addon in quite some time, and I've already decided that if mine goes dead again, it's gone for good. I'll just go back to using version 1.  Wink

The readme says it is, but I didn't do it.
I apparently added the info from the Nimitz cfg  to the cvn_id.cfg file, and adjusted the formation numbers. (I don't remember doing this, but the text is there, so I must have.)

Twilight theme, Go.  Grin

Anyways, I will have to try that. Today..Yesterday I made the most progress. It worked for two straight reboots of the Sim. I just need to figure out the rest.

What are the advantages of V2 over V1?

With V2, you control where they are, and when.

With V1, they are at set locations around the world.

V2 is the preferred version since you can call them up anywhere, anytime. (when it's working)  Wink

If I have to reinstall FSX again.... I'm not.  Wink

My system hates it as it is, and I can just barely run it at a
level that is comparable to my FS9, so I rarely fly it.
I mainly keep it installed for problem solving, and screen shots.  Wink

I'm saving my copy for the future,
when they finally release a flight sim that doesn't require NSA level hardware to run,
and then I'm going to use my FSX dvd for a coffee coaster.  Grin  Wink

Turns out everytime I edited my Cvn_id. It reset to old values, Causing Aicarriers to not recognize anything.

Everything is fine and working, Just change the properties to Read only and Im good to go..

Now where is that facepalm smiley ?

Is this entry the very first one in that file:

[base]
throttle=60
menu_shortcut=shift+j
confdir=conf.d

If it is, or if you put it there, and it doesn't work, then try
making a desktop shortcut to the aicarriers.exe, and when it doesn't appear in the addon menu, go to windowed mode in FSX, and try using the shortcut to activate it and see if that helps.

What operating system do you use?  Huh

It's there.

And I use vista, and UAC was disabled the first day I installed Vista on this Computer.

And I will try that right now

Starting it with the game windowed is fine, I just have to keep the actual Aicarrier Minimized.

Its like it's refusing to start otherwise.

I'm running Win7 64bit so your address may be different, ensure that all files are made visible, under

Computer/localdisk(c)/users/yourname/Appdata/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX

you should have a XML file called exe.xml make a copy of this and rename it exebak.xml as a backup.

now open the original with notebook (not wordpad) and have a look if you have the following lines

<Path>C:\Program Files\Frosty Software\Texture Max Load Editor\tml.exe</Path>
           </Launch.Addon>

  <Launch.Addon>
           <Name>Ai carriers</Name>
           <Disabled>False</Disabled>
           <Path>D:\Program Files (x86)\aicarriers\aicarriers.exe</Path>
           </Launch.Addon>

           <Launch.Addon>
           <Name>Autothumbnail</Name>
           <Disabled>False</Disabled>

this being where you have installed Aicarriers  <Path>D:\Program Files (x86)\aicarriers\aicarriers.exe</Path>

if not add them, then save, hopefully this will help the exe.xml tells the simconnect.dll which programs to run on FSX startup.

We covered that on the first two pages.  Grin  Wink

Both of us had the exact same problem, and finally had to resort to a manual loading each time.

Our EXE.xml files were correct, and just like yours, but refused to load on startup.

Changing them to manual load at least got the program working again.  Wink
