Ok if you had either unlimited funding, or was backed by a company, or owned a company that was to modify any aircraft, to include helicopters, Military & gliders. What one, or ones would you do for costumers or your self, and why? Go into as much detail as you like.

Don't be bashful, feel free to post many times if you have lots of ideas for many different Aircraft

I'll start with the:
C-141C

The Last few C-141's that went to the bone yard, were completely refurbished and just needed a little Tender Lovin Care. All it really needed was a few things to make a civilian cargo plane.
-New CFM's
like on the KC-135R's. More power, extra lift, fuel efficiency, and the most important, comply with new lower noise laws.
-New APU
off of B737, but with the exhaust routed up and not at your face, like in its current location.
-Modular cargo floo
r and locking system off the C-130J, so new rollers can be easily gotten when they brake, and stowed in the floor when loading rolling stock.
-Upgraded flight deck
off of C-130J, so parts can be had easily, and with TCAS be allowed to fly on previously restricted flight paths.
-Reinforce The pressure Door
. I've been told that it needed to be heavily reinforced for added safety.

With all these improvements, it could be sold as a cheap Commercial Cargo plane for small companies that can't afford larger planes but still would like to expand there customer base, and routs.

As soon as I figure out a way for the SR-71 to utilize Jet A-1 and run it through the skin instead of JP-7, I'll post some ideas about that.  Cool

If you put a little turbine on a J3 - 200shp would be fine.  That would cure the forward CG problem, allowing you to solo from the front and push the cruise into the cautionary range.  You'd only be out maybe half a mil'  Smiley.

I've actually wondered if anyone has thought of putting a smallish turbine on one of the Van's RV series aircraft.  I think a RV-4 or RV-8 with a 300 hp Walther turbine would be a pretty nice performer.  There are the "Rocket conversions which put a 260 hp Lycoming and some tougher skin panels on them, so I would think it wouldn't take much to make one a turbine.

Wow, I actually took the time to Google "Turbine RV", and found a multitude of projects.  Apparently I'm not the only one with the thought.

The B-52 comment gave me a thought.  There was talk of upgrading the Buff's engines to more powerful high bypass fans, and to reduce the number from 8 to 4.  I would also think the same could be done with the 747.  They could put just two of the engines from the 777 on a 747 with power to spare.

The B-52 Idea was canned because the wings hang so low when fully loaded for a bomb run, that the only motors that can go there are the new/old motors they are about to sling on the E-8C, the JT8D. So you would make the same power and not really gain any thing by it.

And would you want to mess up the great looks of the 747 by stripping off the motors? If any thing you want to have 4x GE90's on that bad boy, that way you can have the power to weigh ratio to do a tail stand in a heavy like an F-18.

747 does not have too much excess underwing space either. Boeing could not put the 787 Genx engines under 747-8 and had to design a special, smaller Genx for the 747-8.

How about, an A380-800 modified with Trent XWB engines, brakes on all main wheels, centre fuel tank and MTOW boosted to 605 t? What will the range be like, with light payloads?

Thrust vectoring, canards, and modern guts in a F-14.

A super F-22 with canards and rotary weapons bays with 6 hard points each.

A SR-71 with modern guts, more powerful engines and internal weapons bays.

A stealth SU-37 with US avionics.

A 747-8 outfitted like a VC-25 for a private jet.

Do they make an engine any more powerful?  I know they have the scram jet now, but would it work on the Blackbird?

I don't know, but I would go with scramjets or ramjets surrounding a modern version of the SR-71s engines.
Along with composite/titanium reinforcement.

Thought about this in another thread.  Take the plans for the Spruce Goose, but build it using modern composites and propulsion.  Its design was too far ahead of its time, and might be more feasible now.

I'de pull the last XB-70 out of storage and get it flying again. And you know what, I wouldnt change a thing because she's perfect the way she is. I think it would be amazing to see that thing fly again. Like for airshows or somthing. I went to the AF Museum in OH and stood under her.  Shocked  How she ever got to mach 3 was amazing.
