I have a Geforce 8800 GT, and my current GPU clock settings are(factory default):

Core bus:   625Mhz

Memory bus:    900Mhz

i would like some advice on what i should do, and if this would help me getting more performance out of my GPU, and if  do overclock what will id do exactly?

I've often tried this "Overclocking" malarkey to my Processor and Graphics Cards in the distant past, and its always ended in tears

The Computer has mostly ended up being very unreliable and subject to crashes and lock-ups, (especially as the weather gets warmer..overheating!).... ...!

I have always assumed that the Manufacturers designed their product to remain reliable over a long period of time left as it is, without any alteration to its operating characteristics....(...that sounded good!........).

My method, if I am dissatisfied with my present Processor or Graphics Card is to purchase the next "faster" model, and leave it as standard, to ensure continued reliability... ...!

I'm not a great advocate of "fiddling" with things that already work OK...!

(Fiddling with "things" will often force you into Marriage!... ....)...Trust me!... ...!

...are you sure you are not observing your Processor's temperature?

I don't think my nVidia 7800 GS Graphics Card has any provisions for detecting its temperature via software...as far as I am aware!... ...!

I have a 8800 GTS and it's clocked at 676 / 1072 / 1499 - of course with the fan at 100%.

Temps around 52 to 65 C.  - Not too bad I think.

Use Nvidia's Control Panel - Performance. Open Device settings and check "custom" - and let the tool find the optimum settings.

RivaTuner seems to bring you to the brink of success then leaves you hanging.  I suppose if the temp never needs 60%, you'll never hear it and I can always right click on the tray icon and cycle through the fan speeds manually  .
