okay now that i downloaded that it says my card is idling at 66C with the fan speed at 50.00%

That's probably more accurate than the NVIDIA control panel... Wink

I looked around on the internet and one gentleman received this from the BFG support team (I don't know which manufacturer you have though... still the same card!):

Quote:
"This card tends to run hot. The temperatures you are experiencing are nornmal for his card. The card can idle at about 75-85 Celsius. The max temperature for this card can reach 100-110 Celsius."

So while gaming, just keep it under 100c to be safe and you should be fine.

P.S. DAMN that runs hot!

I'll make sure to keep an eye on that, and thanks for the download  Wink

Grin Yes, you can! Wink

Paul, it doesn't seem right to me either, but if that's what a support technician from the card manufacturer said, I'll take his word for it!

Chad, I recommend you do some more research online to see if those are the real temps for that card. Just search 8800GT temps.

I have a Geforce 8800 GT, and my current GPU clock settings are(factory default):

Core bus:   625Mhz

Memory bus:    900Mhz

i would like some advice on what i should do, and if this would help me getting more performance out of my GPU, and if  do overclock what will id do exactly?

Thanks  Cool

I have a 8800 GTS and it's clocked at 676 / 1072 / 1499 - of course with the fan at 100%.

Temps around 52 to 65 C.  - Not too bad I think.

Use Nvidia's Control Panel - Performance. Open Device settings and check "custom" - and let the tool find the optimum settings.

Chad, use EVGA Precision to take a look at your temps
Is this better and, hopefully, easier to use than RivaTuner?

I haven't used RivaTuner, so I can't really answer that question. But I can say that EVGAPrecision is very easy and quick to use Wink

Yes, you should overclock. Why not? I mean, you test for any instability as you overclock, and overheating is generally not an issue. Once you have it overclocked properly you only have a faster card, and no issues.

Grab Rivatuner. Make sure the core clock and shader clocks are linked. Then just increase the core clock slowly and test it each time with a program such as Furmark. Make sure temperatures do not exceed 100 degrees (85 in my opinion) and if there are any visual faults (artifacts), then reduce the clocks. Once you have the highest core clock, then increase the memory speeds, and test for visual errors.

Try to test it for about half an hour once you have otained what you think is the highest possible clocks.

If Furmark cannot detect the errors properly, try ATi tool.

If it crashes your computer, just restart and all is good.

RivaTuner seems to bring you to the brink of success then leaves you hanging.  I suppose if the temp never needs 60%, you'll never hear it and I can always right click on the tray icon and cycle through the fan speeds manually  Smiley.
