I'd rather buy a brand new car. To me I think thats a waste of money. I remember seeing those not to long ago although I dint know about the glass cockpit one.

Dont get me wrong there nice and i'd love to have one..well that is if I dint have to pay for it nor did anyone that I actually care about buying me stuff would either.

And im sure you could make your own any type of airplane, get to spend time doing some man work with wood  Grin, and saying of course (I cant say it but im sure some people love to say it), I made this on my own.

Or you could say I spent $30,000-$50,000 for this. I hope I dont get robbed! Wink

Yeah I'd love to ask how much they really paid to put that together and how many people actually came up with the money.

Gezz I would need a loan then they ask what for and I say oh Flight Simulator Controls for my computer game. There as real as they get... Roll Eyes

No way. Huh Those are nice but not $30,000 nice! Grin   I've seen full 737 simpits for less than that! And from the pics I've seen they can't have more than $2000-$3000 in overhead costs on that thing.( and that estimate is giving them a Huge benifit of doubt.)see here for a little proof of my claim:

There are 6 cessnas on this page that are cheaper than these panels! Shocked

There are a lot of people that have (or at least USED to have before this week  Wink ) a lot of money.

The home cockpit building hobby has a goodly share of them involved...... based on observations of how many people are building pits from commercialally available replica parts (expensive) and prebuilt shells (expensive) and real aircraft panels (more expensive) and so on.

For these people, this kind of stuff is not really "expensve".  And having a 737 in you basement or garage is NOT the same as owning a Cessna 172.  They are two completely different things altogether.

Yeah .......you can get a real 172..... but likely not a real 737 (unless you are John Travolta  Wink ).  It is not a contest between real flying in a 172 and REAL flying in a 737.  For some folks .... being able to "fly" a 737 is more appealing than tooling around for a few hours in a real 172.

And the "bragging rights" on what is parked in the garage factors in nicely too with some folks.

So yes.... these parts seem very costly to a LOT of us (yours truly included)......... but we are measuring things coming from a diffent setr of circumstances.  Some people have mansions, vacation cabins at Aspen,  yachts, private islands, real airplanes, and so on.  Their "scale" for money is different.

best,

....................john

PS:  With what is happening in the global economies and the US stock market right now, I predict that a number of the suppliers of replica type home cockpit parts that have sprouted up lately will be closing shop.  Particularly the ones with "overpriced" units like these.  And that there will be "good deals" on a lot of used cockpit parts for projects that aren't gonna get finished.

We'll see.

I love Aspen.. Grin
Although I stay a city out side of Aspen becuase of course the price of those houses or more like mansions are..well just like you said..

Great point right there and I think your right they will be losing alot of sales because of the economy.

Not to mention GAS!! When I got my license in 1982, 100 oct was 1.50/gal. It stayed around $2.00 for years. Then I bought a 210 with a friend and it started to sore. I couldn't afford to fly it anymore. We just sold her to a doctor in Colorado! haha Took a beating on the price too. Oh well.

$30k what......a Dehaviland beaver (DHC-2) with wheels and the wasp junior engine and a few hundred thousand miles is $300. So if you made a replica DHC2 cockpit and it cost $5000 why not just by the real thing..

PS: when there´s an accident on the freeway just fly to work! Grin
