Based on these specs, can I run CFS3 and/or CFS2 ? (Read 2438 times)

I have searched and read posts where people say CFS3 and CFS2 installs and runs properly on their Vista... and just as many that say it does not work properly on their Vista.
So, I'm thinking the disparity is a video card thing.
Nonetheless, here are the specs for my laptop:

Gateway MT6541 Laptop
AMD Turion 64 1.60 GHz processor
1GB RAM
Windows Vista 32-bit
128MB ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics card with Chip Type ATI Radeon Xpress Series 0x5975

My concern is more or less with the graphics card.  I have found that some of my older games that work fine on my Windows XP desktop 256MB Radeon X700 graphics card do not work on my Laptop, either because Vista is not supported or the chip set is not supported.

So... based on the specs above, could anyone tell me if CFS3 and/or CFS2 will run on my laptop?
(FYI: IL-2 Sturmovik, Jane's USAF, and Falcon 4.0 will not)

Thanks !

I have updated my ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 drivers with the lates 3/2008 Catalyst display drivers.

The laptop does seem to be able to install and handle FS2004 on "high" display mode without noticeable framerate lag.

Nonetheless, I saw CFS3 and CFS2 both on $8.99 sale at my local Target and am considering getting one or the other.

Thanks,

You should be able to run it, might not be the best fps 'cause of processor speed Undecided but the ram is fine, graphics card OK.

And i would consider a downgrade to win Xp pro, because vist is a Cpu and RAM hog Wink

Well, Vista is fine on this laptop, because quite honestly it is primarily a business application rig.
I just want some games to play while travelling... which was the reason for the initial post.

Nonetheless, I have a home rig which is a Gateway 500GR, WinXP (and will not change), 2G RAM, Pentium4 3.0GHz, and Radeon X700Pro 256MB video... which runs MSFSX, IL-2 Sturmovik, and Falcon 4.0:AF just fine...

Thanks !

Don't know about Vista, but I've been running CFS 3 on a 1000 mhz AMD XP machine, with a 32Mb videocard with 512 Mb Sdram

CFS3 will run okay on that spec machine. I used to run it okay on a PIII 1GHz with 512MB RAM and a Ti4600! And I was averaging 20-25 FPS without problems Wink

You said Janes USAF will not run on it?

Forget CFS 3 then! I was able to run USAF, but I could barely run CFS (it lagged whenever I got within guns range of an enemy plane).

P4 3.2 GHz and an Nvidia 6800 (at the time I had USAF installed).

CFS 2 might run though. Wink
