If we have something like this, we should agree to have no hard feelings all around. And that may best man win. Smiley

I'm for it if nobody gets hard feelings.

But that's the problem, right?

Somebody's going to get hard feelings?

Not me, though, I'm rock solid tight, unless you spam me!(email)

I remember Eno created something along these lines a couple of years ago. Even though the titles were made to be funny, and there was no polling, it still created a lot of "why not me" resentment. Maybe if you feel strongly about and would like to praise someone's contribution, post something in the Cafe and the replies to it will probably be as satisfying to the recipient as being voted to an award.  Smiley

Maybe the awards need to be more specific, for example:

Simviation owner of the year
Hungarian based ex-pat mod of the year
Member of the year (for members emeritus)
Cornish Seafarer of the year (where is he at the mo?)

There could be no complaints then! Grin

Agreed!

Whether we realize it or not, we all make a contribution to SimV, whether a screenshot, suggestion, or even a joke.

If you really want to recognize someone in SimV, send them a PM telling them that you appreciate what they do. It will make their day Smiley

It may have done, why do you ask? Smiley

I would have thought that, since as ozzy mentioned, the antithesis of the Simv spirit is spite and jealousy, then there could be no scope for bad feeling in the first place... I'd hope we're all logical enough to recognise that saying someone's 'the best ______' is not automatically saying 'you're the worst ______'.... but I do see john's point.

We have discussed this in the past and collectively decided against it, since I would be garnering all the votes every year, that anyone else would merely be, at best, a distant second.

Has anybody read what Felix posted?  Roll Eyes

I agree that compared to a screenshot comp, it would be a huge undertaking and would also breed resentment, to the extent that it wouldn't be worth it.

Here's an idea for a compromise: a thread inviting members to point out the contributions of other members. Maybe replies (particularly "dittos" or retorts) could be discouraged; just a list of "thank yous"?
There's nothing stopping anyone from doing this at any time in the Lounge or whatever, but if there is to be a "well done" thread I feel that the above format would be more successful than a "member of the year contest".

It would be an ego boost for whoever got it, and an ego destroyer for whoever didn't... that said, isnt that what the screenshot contests can be like?

I think maybe a general sort of thankyou to certain members could be alright, but still you could go naffing off the users who tried hard and didnt get their names down.

So I vote against- it could work, but there are alot of people who could take it for the worse.

Guys I wouldn't want to embarrass any other users here at Sim V thanks for thinking of me but I want to decline this idea, because I am a modest person with simple expectations. But I do appreciate your recognition of my greatness, and one day if you all strive you can be just like me   Smiley
