Hey everybody,

It's gonna be awhile before I start building the pit for the most part I have a pretty good plan. Since I have some time before the build I was going to start a site dedicated to the art of the homebuilt cockpit. Its gonna include info for my pit and anyone else who would like to participate in the site.

My question regarding freefd is does everybody think it would be ok to make the file available for download from my site? Maybe with some renewed interest in freefd some programmer might want to take it on and at least keep it current. Being a piece of abandonware its really good still. I also love how it works on low end PC's

I'm working on getting a domain together and the site design today PM me if you would be interested in participating. Not trying to distract from SimV but to make a dedicated sim pit information site.

I have a pretty deep background in site design and this site will look kick A%$. Could be a great way for many of you to display your pits progress without getting your own website.

masternerd,

Good luck on the simpit site.  But remember ...... it'll be a lot of work..... and might distract you from the actual simpit construction.  I find that I could end up working on the pit FULL TIME if I wanted to (or could AFFORD to  Wink ).  There are TONS of things to do in a simpit..... that will take up a huge amount of time.

As to posting FreeFD for full active public download on your site........

I would NOT do so without contacting Don Lafontaine and getting his blessing first.  The WebWaybackMachine is one thing, as is editing up the Navdata files to keep them current; setting up a direct download situation for the whole core program is likely another.  He very graciously wrote the original software, made it available for FREE, and he still is "around" the flighsim world, I think. (See the FreeFD thread at the top of the forum for what I THINK is his new PAYWARE venture.)   It would be politic and polite to make EVERY effort to contact him before doing so.  Not to mention you might be flirting with "legalities".

best,

....................john

PS:  Don't get distracted from the "job at hand".... your simpit!   Wink

Thanks for the info John,

No distraction for right now. Actually building the site and posting my progress will, I think, be helpful in the design, kinda will pull my thoughts and information together. Plus I think if I do it right it could pull in some sim pit income Wink Im the mulitasker from hell in one hand Ill be mounting an lcd and in the other ill be editing html, just kidding

As far as freeFD I had a feeling that was the case, but I wanted to see first if anybody here had spoken with him. Ill try and contact him when the time comes. I have a feeling since he may be on the payware side of the house now its gonna be a big fat NO Angry Understandable since I have a good idea what kind of effort goes into programming an application, although I'm not much of a programmer myself.

Once things start going  its gonna be fsxpand anyway, it looks like they are in the middle of a big update! Now if we could only get a weather radar on the nav display.

Let's all "lean" on Gert to work with the SA_WXradar supplier to integrate it into his like with Project magenta's ......... or to write his own.   Wink

I already contacted Gert and with the updates going on there is no plans right now for the weather radar.  If they could make some sort of transparency for the nav display we could underlay the nav radar.
