..Its become clear to me that many people on these forums believe that the best way to take a screenshot is to set all your sliders to the right. Well, thats quite possibly the worst way to take a screenshot. Maximum settings mean nothing unless your computer is able to perform well with them. The best settings are the ones that YOUR computer runs best and looks best with. I have spent a long time tweaking my computer and now have it set perfectly, so much so that I never touch my settings. Its all for performance, but at the same time with the settings set as best for my computer as I can get them the sim looks good. When I take a contest pic I do not touch my graphics settings.

For example, look at this screenshot:

This is a contest winning screenshot, it got me First Place in the Canadian Pilots forum contest. I didnt touch my settings. This is what my sim is set at normally. I didnt set my sliders to the right or anything. The only thing I did was set time of day and weather.

If I had maximized my settings this would have been a HORRIBLE screenshot. It just isnt good to set your settings as high as they can go, it gets you nothing but a hot computer and terrible performance

I dont have a super amazing computer, but with the right settings, tweaked to where the computer handles it best (no, I do not overclock), you can take amazing screenshots even with a lower end PC

Yah, keeping your setting "default" is for good performance and somewhat detail withing the sim. I'm gonna look into calculating the prossesing speed and memory needed to power the sim in-relation to system spec's to give best performance. But not a bad shot at all, I believe the only improvement you can make is possivally AA and AF but That requires video card setting's to be changed. Grin

Well I had to compress the screenshot more to fit within SimV regulations. And trust me, I know all about AA and AF in the video card, I have mine maxed with Adaptive AA and High Quality AF

Well it doesnt matter what sim your in, just make sure that its running best for YOUR computer. I wouldnt care if I could only handle FS2002 because I could find or at least try to find the best settings I can for it. I never had FS2002, but I have seen it and it seems like its almost as good graphically as FS9. If you set it where your computer is best and take artistic shots you can be one of the best screenshot artists on these forums

Good tips, I'm lucky that I can run my FS on highest settings and still get about 25FPS! I have to turn them down to a custom level when i use particularly detailed planes/scenery etc.

Yes but at highest settings is it really best for your computer? I could run at highest and still get livable frames (somewhere around 20) but I dont because it isnt best for my computer
