Here.

I'll put an end to some of this sh#t.

First off: Roger.  I'm sorry.  I didn't have enough information to be denouncing anyone's point of view at that time.  When I posted I was not a mod; only made it after the 'incident'.  I was taken in by a pretty face (be it real or not) and innocent words.  I felt I had to defend someone who couldn't defend themselves well, so I jumped in and put my foot and mouth where they didn't belong.  Those aren't good excuses, but they're all I've got.

Second:  I am resigning as a mod as of now.  I'll still be here, but it seems the concensus of the major players at SimV is that someone in the mod section screwed up big time and as the new guy (and the one mod who really did F it all up) I feel like I am that someone.  Sorry I didn't hold up to everyone's (especially Pete's) expectations.

I would like to say we are only human, and until the last day or so, things were relatively calm, and while we tried to find the truth, which is something we as mods and admin, should do for all members, even if suspicions of being a troll are making its ugly face known.

T here are no forums that are immune to these kind of problems, and luckily SIMviation has been the most easy going problem free forum that I have had the pleasure of being a member of. There are many people that have a wealth of information that they readily lend to those in need and are always extending a welcomed hand for those new to the site. So many times I have gone to a forum that has a sopecific subject and posted a "hello" type of thread with bits and pieces of in need of help, only to be ignored completely. I never did get that hereand since day one, I have met many many virtual friends with a similar passion in the area of flight simming. This site is one of a kind.

Roger, I sent you a message that I hope you get the chance to read. My neglecting to say anything to the troll about what she said about you and anyone else she mentioned is my own fault and i accept that, and ask forgiveness, for you like me are human. I had a lot going on that evening, and just so happened to check the forums, only to find a boiling cauldron.

To everyone, that visits here, rest assured we were doing everything we could to ge to the bottom of what was going on. Yes there were probably some things we could have done better, but as a whole, with what resources we had, and the fact that we could not be face to face across the globe to discuss everything before everything broke loose, I personally think that we did the job we thought was best, unfortunately before we could come up with a decision, and have pete give the go ahead, things went south, and from what Dave has said, they went south quickly.

I will say this, it has been a learning experience for me, and I am sure just about everyone involved be it a moderator or a valuable member of the community as well.

Whoa there!  Don't be too hasty.  Now that you have been through this, you now know better when this happens again.  Many of us may well have done the same thing.  And both you (and SaVas) did apologize.

So you make a mistake.  That's part of being human....I know you're not the first one to be fooled (trust me on this one...)!

Remember, I was fooled as well.  Now we all know not to be so quick to break out the torches and pitchforks.

I do agree with RollerBall...these forums are now stronger.  I also think you were offered the job as moderator for a reason...

On an unrelated not, as a computer/network techincian, I can assure you.  Investigating this sort of thing is no mean task.  Fly2e's day in the life essay, should tell you something in and of itself.

The logs which the Mods had to go through have pages and pages of information.  It's also a lot of work to sort it...the kind of work that takes time.

Bear this in mind before loading your marmalade-cannons...

Ender, IMHO it is a mistake for you to resign as a mod so quickly.  I feel that you are kind of a victim of bad timing and that you did nothing wrong.  I too tried to stand up for the troll thinking they were a legmitate member-because they really hadn't done anything wrong (at the time) and seemed defenseless (call me nieve if you want).  I don't think that you should feel like you need to resign.  The comments you made were done before you became a mod and you had no idea that they might be held against you.  Personally, I have been viewing this whole sequence of events (quietly) and it just seems like it was bad timing for everything that happened.  Once again, I think you should reconsider before resigning-you are a valued member of this forum and I think you will be a great mod.

All right.  I've realized that any change in the SimV system would be a victory for that damn troll . . . Roll Eyes

I still feel, though, as if I fueled this flame, but that cannot be remedied, however hard I try to help.

So I will stay as a mod, and I will try to keep my opinions at a resonable level! Grin Wink

Happy Flying,
Travis

Phew - I was just about to write you a 'must stay note too'. The last thing we want is for anyone more to resign. The wretched guy would be still achieving his evil ends, wow - He's even got a mod out! Imagine!
Everyone makes mistakes, you did your best for the good of the community as did everyone else. We're all sorry for our wrongs and apolagised for those of us who stuck our foot in it. We're all in the same basket - and  now its time to put this behind and try and get our former friends back.
Now, we've all learnt a great deal and we'll be all a tad wiser for the next troll that comes along. I can assure you it won't be long. This makes two we've had this year alone.

Anyway - we've all shaken hands and are friends.

Cheers

Ben

Hi all,

I've tried to put a bit of space between me and the forums for a coupla days to try to get some perspective back. It's not easy to be objective when the wounds are still so fresh so I've tried to let things ride for a bit.

Savas and Ender, thanks for what you've said in this thread and after reading your PM, especially to you Stephen. After reading what you said I must apologise in public for words I wrote in private. I'll say no more because you know what I'm talking about but I believe I misjudged you and I'm sorry.

I don't know what the opposite of triumphal is, but that's how I feel right now. I had no desire to be part of what is probably one of the most painful and divisive experiences that these forums have ever been through and I don't feel particularly proud of myself. Quite the opposite in fact.

It would be childish and stupid for me not to return to the forums after all the knd words and support that I've received from other members. It's a bit embarrassing and I don't feel that I really deserve it but let me say just how grateful I am.

And it's also important that Jeff does as well. Unlike me he's a young guy with a lot less of experience of life and it's totally unfair that he should pay such a huge price for such a minor indiscretion.

Jeff, if you're reading this it is IMPORTANT that you come back. I know you have MANY friends on these forums who have been batting for you while you've been away. You'd be letting them down if you stayed away and now it's time to return.

So now we must move on. There's no point keep poking over the ashes of this business. We've all learned and grown as a result of this experience, me included very much so. It's run it's course and I for one am glad that it has.

I don't know what other people think but I reckon this would be a good time to lock this thread and consign it to history.

I agree. Lets lock this now.

The only one who can do that is Pete because He is the only one with Administrative rights to this forum.

Ironic how this ended up here. As You all can see, none of us are Mods, just one community of friends trying work things out!

Pete,

Your keys please..... Smiley
