Mozilla (Read 1254 times)

On the advice of people much cleverer than me, and following a series of email and downloading problems, I finally dumped Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.  It seems that many people "in the Industry" have already done this to get away with the never ending Microsoft security problems and patches.

On advice I had a choice of replacement with Mozilla and/or Opera as my new Browser...... I chose the Mozilla.

I am happy to add that all previous problems I was experiencing have gone.

My browsing (which I thought was OK for speed) has now improved and is conservatively 2 or 3 times faster.  I can now zap about these forums in half the time.     My email, loading and receiving is probably twice as fast.

Initial reactions to the change - very pleased with it.

As I use XP I have retained the IE etc and can go back to it easily if necessary for the odd built in Microsoft need.

Welcome to the world without "gates" LOL!!
I have been using Netscape since I first logged on to the world, never had problems, no "page cannot be displayed" etc, I have been using the new Firefox. The differance between Netscape 7.1 and Firefox is that Netscape is a full fledge browser and Firefox is open source, you only add what you want in a browser.
finally people are realizing how unsecure M$ is, can't be too good is you have security downloads everyday now can it?  Wink
I too still have IE just because there are still a few sites that won't work on anything but IE, and because of that those are sites that I seldom go to.

I have been using Firefox for quite a while now.  Instead of opening a new page for somethings hold ctrl and click, you will like that feature! 8)

You know you can click the middle mouse button to do the same thing, right?  Seems easier that way to me.

I actually don't like Firefox...I use Moz 1.7, personally.  Actually, come to think of it, no I don't.  I didn't really like 1.7 either so I reverted to 1.6.

Regardless, the less MS I have, the happier I am!

Welcome to the dark side!

Grin AGREED!!!!

Actually most all problems I have ever had with my computer have been caused by automatic updates from M$, I went through on day and noticed automatic updates installed on my computer for stuff that doesn't even relate to anything I have, ex. networking ,powerpoint, office, etc.
I belive this is a reason for allot of conflicts I was having.
I removed all hotfixes, updates and anything else that Windows would allow me, and whala! Computer runs better than ever before.
Although now I'm trying SP2 (by recomndation from Congo), I installed it due to a recent major problem caused by a virus, SP2 seems to be quite stable, comes with all updates that I "really" needed, and seems to be flawless so far (knocking on wood) I do have automatic updates turned on just to see what happens when M$ decides to update, but so far nothing has been needed. Maybe they finally figured something out??
All in all if I can thank M$ for anything it is for letting me learn the ins and outs of computer troubleshooting in a really short period of time!! Smiley
But as far as IE goes, I still think it is the biggest mistake anyone can make when it comes to surfing the web, unless seeing "page cannot be displayed" and major security breaches are your thing, LOL!!  Grin

Well, the problem is that because we're still running Windows, we kinda have to keep the updates in place, because a lot of them are security patches.  If it weren't for Windows and FS, I'd be completely M$ free!  (Can't wait for the day!)

I switched to Firefox and I couldn't be happier. Going to upgrade to Thunderbird email as soon as my dad finds the password for the email. FS and Windows are the only Microsoft programs I have. I use Corel Suite 8 which is a much better office pack. I'd even go back to Mac if they made FS for it again.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. I tried switching to Firefox, alas, my Mrs uses MSN messenger (way too much!) any links she is sent by other chatters, try to open an I.e. window which will not display any web content - that "Page cannot be found" message we all love so well.....  Roll Eyes

I tried but could'nt get I.e. to work alongside Firefox, so sadly for Firefox, it got shot!  Grin

At least now I have broadband the almost daily updates don't take so long....  Roll Eyes

We just got firefox not  long ago. I've never looked back. However we have Internet Explorer & Outlook Express  running as well. So those in our house who  like one can use it without the other. I just can't figure out how anyone would like  Gate's version. Roll Eyes But we musn't be too hard on the 'poor' bloke (not really) - he has given us our sims!!!

i love firefox. it totally blows away any competition. the free extention and theme mods you can do are unbelievable. seriously, if you are using anything else besides FF, switch. you will not regret it.
