I visited Duxford on a Sunday in November.  It was cold, wet and windy.  Nothing special happening but we had to park in the Officers mess and walk a mile(ish) to get in.  There must have been thousands of people there.

I met Ozzy in central London and it was way easier to find him than it would've been in Duxford...

How about the newly reopened RAF museum... and its free, so once you've paid to get there, its easy...

This might be a much better idea. Easier for most people to get to & not so dependent on the weather. Wink

Just the London Underground (think the car might come in handy). I'd love to pop along, as long as its before the 8th Feb!!!

Wow Hagar,
things must have really changed, I never had any trouble getting in to an airshow at Duxford, but I always got there before the gates opened. and it has been 10 years since the last time I was there.
a shame, as I remember my last show there it would have been easy to meet up by picking a place and time.

brad, why using a walkie-talkie,when there are cell phones? Roll Eyes

umm...get me a cheap offer for a flight from stuttgart or frankfurt to london and we could talk about that meeting.
i'd need some place to stay, too. umm....forget that. a sleeping bag and a tent should be enough. Grin

I always try and arrived by 0830-0930 latest. Nowadays you have to approach from the south M11 to get to park on the airfield anyway.

I should point out that this was a special event. The Spitfire 60th Anniversary show. 1998 I believe - was it really that long ago?
Apparently it was far more popular than the organisers expected or catered for. The car park was full to capacity long before we got there & the M11 was jammed solid for miles with people trying to get in. We ended up in Cambridge about 1 hour after passing the airfield before we could turn round & go home again.

It was a very disappointing day for me as I had special complimentary tickets from the OFMC. Despite this the police would not let us off the M11. There was no way we could have got through anyway.

I know the show Hagar is talking about. I got into the airfield as the gates opened at 8am. Same thing happened at the 2000 B of B airshow at Duxford. Site was full and people had to be turned away.
In my experience this is a bit unusual at Duxford as the crowd is normally well under capacity.
However, Hagar may well be correct about finding each other at a crowded airshow and Hendon is most likely the better option.

Ok guys why dont we set a date for May/June time at Duxford a Weekend when there is no shows as thats probably a bit busy. If we have quite a few people they may even open an hour early to let us in (So Im told by a friend who works there).

I think this is intended more as a small informal get-together. What Avsim do is neither here nor there & up to them. Wink

The other benefit of a non airshow site is that the weather wouldnt really be able to put a "damper" on the meeting if the British weather was to be as it normally is... Undecided

how about the RAF museam in Hendon?  it's out of the weather, not too large as to get lost in. underground accessable, and a pub not to far away.
