Is it possible to add buttons to controllers?

My rudder pedals are built from a Logitech 4 button controller.  They are currently unassigned and will be useful in my panel.  I also have about 10-15 buttons from an old car stereo that I could solder in.  How do I get the computer to notice these extra buttons?

Thanks for any help.

Will,

Not too sure if this can be easily done mate. The button presses are "interpreted" by a chip in the contoller, so I doubt adding buttons is possible. Why no get a USB keyboard and hack that up? You can move the buttons around all you like as long as they remain "mapped" to the chip.

Thanks Ric, I was thinking a keyboard was the only answer but I hoped that I could "cheat" a little.

Oh well.
