Is there any way to get small GA planes to keep the hell away from parking spots for heavy, medium, small, etc. planes ( aside from overlays....had too many freaky occurences with those)? I'm getting sick of finding Cessna 172s parked at gates for airliners.

Thanks for any help! Smiley

Whoa.

The answer is "yes."

First, what you described indicates that there are not enough parking spaces available for GA traffic at the airport in question.  Try adding more spaces of a smaller radius!

Second, if you haven't already, I recommend getting familiar with the RAFCAD method of assigning aircraft types to parking spaces.  AI Traffic Mover is a good program for editing the aircraft radius and resizing gates.  It seems like a complicated program at first, but it's incredibly handy when you get the hang of it.

Here's a link to a recent thread about the RAFCAD method:

Here's the file name to search for AI Traffic Mover:

Good luck! Smiley

Thanks for the reply!  One odd thing...there's plenty of small GA parking and the only flights I've added to airports in question have been airliners...yet the little bastards still take up heavy, medium, and small gates. There's lots of empty small GA gates still available, although some are occupied.

Another thing...it seems that no matter what, an aircraft will park in a spot as long as it is big enough...implying that there's ultimately no way to keep small GA planes from occupying spots for large jets. Unless I change the radius of small planes to some gigantic figure and make appropriately sized spots for them....but then the heavies will take those spots too. Maybe I'm getting this all wrong.

FM3,

As I understand it........

The AI "controller" will assign an aircraft to the closest available radius space that is equal to the plane's radius.  If no space is available.... it will look for the next larger space.

So you set the Cessna 172's radius to say....... 10.543 meters in AIMover.  Then you go into AFCAD and edit the radius of the gates that you want Cesna 172's to park at to 10.543 meters.

That seems to work for me.  I have explained this before to others...... and they say it seems to work.

This will only work if the amount of traffic at the airport does not exceen the available gates.  If not..... all bets are off.  Chaos ensues.

Hope this helps.  For more info, I did a long explanation of using AIMover and AFCAD to do this for someone else not too long ago.  I think it was under something like "getting cargo plance to park in the right places" or something like that.  And AI am SURE that if you go back in this forum....amny others far more knowledgable than I have explained it all in much better detail.

All this and $2.00 will get you a cup of coffee somewhere.  Wink

best,

...................john

Try changing the order in AFCAD. Move all the small parking places to the top of the list. Then all the small GA will pop in there first. None of the big planes can.
