Title: FSX+Windows 7 Common Problem Fixes Post by andy190 on Mar 4th, 2012 at 8:06pm FSX+Windows 7 problems. In this post I will try to help you fix some of the issues with FSX in Widows 7. Can’t add repaints or tweak CFG files? Default Windows 7 protect you from yourself setting. The whole Program files & Program files (x86) area is classed as read-only. Right click on the FSX Root folder; click on properties & then un-tick the box read-only, now press apply. Now it shouldn’t say "access denied" when you try to add repaints or tweak CFG files. Can’t add scenery to FSX in Windows 7? This video should explain, can’t improve on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8kO1IsJMuE Where is the FSX.cfg located in Windows 7? In Windows 7 the FSX.cfg is located in: C:\Users\<Your Name> \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX By default this area is hidden to you. To un-hide it, open up the Control Panel & go to Appearance and Personalization & click on folder options. A pop-up will appear, go to the tab “View” & scroll down till you see Hidden Files & Folders. Put a tick in the box “Show Hidden Files & Folders” & press apply. Where is the active Scenery.cfg located in Windows 7? In Windows 7 it is located in: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX Thanks for reading & if you have any comments or suggestions feel free to post. |

Great idea, Andy.....these problems often come up in posts here :)
Edit: This post may be absorbed into the FSX FAQ sticky thread...... Dave (Fly2E) doesn't like cluttered stickies ;) |

It maybe but I don't think it should be. How many times does "NVidia Inspector Tutorial & Updating NVidia Drivers for best performance!" help people?
There have been lots of posts by people asking where the FSX.cfg is & most people in my opinion would be too lazy to scroll through the FAQ thread. ;) |

Just a link to open the real admin in win 7
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/access-the-real-administrator-account-in-windows-7/3656 About the scenery.cfg in fsx. Well, there are 3 of them in the sim. If you get errors, read the text closely and you might find the right .cfg. Hi there. Please try this. Paste the Aircraft.cfg file you wish to edit to your Desktop. After editing & saving changes paste it back to where it came from.
Always take a back-up copy of files before editing them. |

Hi Andy
Not sure if it's a Windows 7 issue, but I'm having problems adding freeware from simviation to FSX. I downloaded two planes Fokker 50 and a BAE jet, these added to FSX with no problems. I then downloaded B737, B748 and a A320, however, despite doing exactly the same I cannot see these in the plane selection section of FSX. Any ideas? |

Could you provided links to the downloads giving you problems? I searched for "A320" and have 5 pages of links for repaints, aircraft with repaints, etc. Rich |
Title: DIRECTX 9.0C Error message Post by RSorochak on May 27th, 2012 at 6:52am
Finally got around to installing Win7 with all the patches and fixes. Reinstalled FSX only to have it not start, while receiving the following error message:
Quote:
Win7 installs DirectX 11.0 which should, one would think, be backward compatible. And you cannot install an older version of DirectX over a newer one. The solution was to go to the Micro$oft website and download their "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer". It scanned the DirectX libraries installed by Win7 (DirectX 11.0), then downloaded and installed the missing 9.0C "libraries". Hope this helps someone. Rich |

hello to all: I do not know if this belongs here if not just move it.
I just tried the one of our suggestings it did not work. I went to the root fsx folder and uncheck the read only before I had a chance to click on apply and ok the little box came up and started to do its thing. so I thought it was done so I put my aircraft cfg into the aircraft cfg folder gave it a number fsx 6 and try to save it says access denied. if this any help I got the aircraft cfg in notepad if this and the read only is why its not letting me save. bombardier |
