Again, nice bit of equipment, but almost as thick as my laptop and just as heavy, so it was out of the running.
Matt

I find the thickness and weight an advantage; it presents a more 'solid' feel in your hands than the thinner tablets do.

The features far outweighed both size and weight.

Toshiba's current tablet is the Excite, which comes closer to the Galaxy/ Nexus style in look and feel. If I'm not mistaken, the Thrive has been discontinued although many retailers still retain stock on hand.

Got a Nexus 7, for £200 its brilliant. However, if the pockets are deep enough look at the iPad.

Just got my dad an iPad mini and that's great, he now uses that instead of his laptop for 90% of browsing related things and they come at a very attractive price (well placed in the market i feel)

obviously if you have the £400 to spend then go for the big daddy iPad (or the previous gen if you want something bigger but dont have the cash for current gen).

It is something that is worth really thinking about because you don't want to get a case of the tablet envy Tongue

My elderly Sister, who has never had a computer before, has just purchased a Google Nexus 7 (£200) for herself, to explore "things" via Google, Wikipedia, etc...

She loves it to bits, (saves her from her usual visits to the Public Library), but she has abandoned the practice of sending, and receiving, E-Mails and attachments, etc, on it!

It will never replace my vintage Tower and Desktop computers for my sort of use, with its external QUERTY keyboard, mouse, joystick, printer, etc...
...and be compatible with my mountains of Computer games, old and new!

Even a "Laptop" cannot compete with the complete versatility of my trusty Tower Computer!
It might be big, and bulky...and..untidy!...but it serves all my needs in the world of; "computerizing"... Smiley...!

A "Tablet", etc, is probably a useful accessory for getting "instant information" on a screen..... and annoying your host at the same time!....(like the accursed "Mobile Phones"!)... Angry...!

Paul...towering above/cowering below, my computer... Smiley...!

Dell Dimension 5000 BTX Tower. Win7 Home Edition, 32 Bit. Intel Pentium 4, dual 2.8 GHz. 2.5GB RAM, nVidia GF 9500GT 1GB. SATA 500GB + 80GB. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Micronet ADSL Modem only. Saitek Cyborg Evo Force. FS 2004 + FSX. Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower...Motor Bikes. Gas Cooker... and lots of musical instruments!.... ...!
Yamaha MO6,MM6,DX7,DX11,DX21,DX100,MK100,EMT10,PSR400,PSS780,Roland GW-8L v2,TR505,Casio MT-205,Korg CX3v2 dual manual,+ Leslie 760,M-Audio Prokeys88,KeyRig,Cubase,Keyfax4,Guitars,Orchestral,Baroque,Renaissance,Medieval Instruments.

From my experience as hard as android tablets try (my nexus  7 included) none of them are as reliably simple to use and consistently snappy as the iPad. You get what you pay for ... and if you buy an Android tablet for £400 you paid too much.
