How can I improve the appearance of Scenery in FSX?

Everything looks like the Saraha Desert. Surely there is some greenery somewhere.

Simple, go back to FS9. 10 times the scenery, with a couple of addons(ask about them) you'll get great airports, wonderful scenery & great repaints. The only thing missing is the virtual flight decks (depends on the air craft), really slow frame rates & the ever present glitches. Ask the Fozz, I think he will agree with me. I will admit that FXS produces some really great screen shots, but if you want to fly some great places go back to FS9.

Depends where you're flying. Perhaps change the season.

This is my local area of south-east England in Winter. Not very realistic after all the rain we've had.

Change the season to Spring. That's better. Cool

This is FSX default scenery with some freeware mesh.

When it comes to scenery, I suppose it comes down to what areas you are very familiar with.... Wink...!

My Flight Sim local area in England is absolutely nothing like it is in real life, no matter how much mesh and add-on scenery I apply to it...

..whereas, the State of California, and the USA Western Seaboard, where I have Sim flown for the past 15 years, is highly realistic in comparison to the many photographs of the State I have studied, and information I have gleaned.
I am often amazed at just how accurately Microsoft have applied the Sim Scenery to that area...(maybe because the designers lived and worked in that area!).
One thing I really like, regarding scenery textures and colours applied to different seasons and parts of the World, is what is available from here, for FS 2004 (free!)...>>> http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/502-voz-18-complete/ it also includes the lovely Koorbygen buildings!
It really makes FS 2004 come to life in different seasons!

But there again....Its FS 2004... Grin...!

Paul...FS 2004...(and FSX)... Cool...!

I know I keep banging on about FS 2004... Kiss...(and I know I'm not supposed to, 'cos FSX is the new-kid-on-the-block for newcomers), but I do compare it with my FSX, for overall performance, etc, etc..and anyone who is a little bit miffed with their new copy of FSX, a try of FS 2004 with a few freeware bits and bobs, may suddenly brighten up their day!... Grin...!

For England you can not get better than Horizon Photo Scenery  its got me hooked and I rarely fly out of the country, only draw back it does not change with the seasons The Horizon Scotland its quite good, but unfortunatly a bit lacking in colour density.
