http://news.yahoo.com/iron-butterfly-bassist-lee-dorman-dies-age-70-005219358.ht...Another one gone, Iron Butterfly's bassist.
Iron Butterfly's guitarist, Eric Brann, passed away in 2003 at age 53; he was 17 when their 2nd album, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, 17 minutes in length, was released in 1968.
I had the great pleasure of seeing Iron Butterfly in May 1968 when they were unknown, at a rock venue in North Miami called The World, a converted airplane hanger with two opposing stages 10 feet up. They were 2nd billing, by the time they came on, the entire crowd had left, leaving about 50 people.
We were given a full show, they were excellent, and of course, also played In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, an unusual and very psychedelic tune with a catchy theme riff. I still enjoy it to this day.
R.I.P. to both.
(The World lasted about a year and a half. The hanger still stands, it's now a warehouse of some sort. If only those walls could talk.)
