Recently due to a disk problem I had to reinstall FSX on my XP computer.

But I cannot ACTIVATE  The ACTIVATION dialog says it cannot connect to Microsoft.

Is there a soultion to this problem?

I really hope this its just and Internet problem ,for M$ sake ,the can get sued because WE paid for this game ,the are obligated to activate even FS2004 and even FS2000 ,all FS or they could get in a big trouble

this is a serious issue I would't use this smiley -->  Cry  I would use this one  Angry  if that were true and confirmed

I kinda doubt that. It is still being sold. I could be wrong, but I would think MS would have had all copies removed from stores before stopping activation.

More likely a firewall problem or not using admin credentials during the activation. I've seen reports online of successful activations as recently as three days ago and Microsoft's made no announcements about changes in the activation process. Pick up the phone and call.

If you have enough money to sue Microsoft, how'd you make your fortune?  Grin

I'm beleiving tha MS has stopped validating/registering all versions of FS.

The error message for FSX is the validation dialog cannot connect to the MS server. I have tried it on  two computers.

I'll try it on another computer later.

This morning I tried installing FS9 and I got similar results. The registration page for FS9 is GONE!

I suspect they are doing this to get people to move to FS 11.

This really PI$$ES ME OFF!

let's calm down Bob ,there is no FS11 and it wont be a FS11 ,

  I don't think M$ would dear to
brake the law
because that's what this would be about

Its like they would dear to stop activating windows Xp which is on sale or even windows me ,these are still running softwares and so does all M$ Flight simulator that requires their activation should have to have support or they could get into a real trouble ,because this is not a two hundred sold program, this is a huge community world wide who bought it in many other languages ,its a million dollars responsibility

You mean move to MS Flight?  Not going to happen.  They pretty much said they were closing that down due to lack of interest.

I can't remember any registration for FS 9? But for FSX try calling MS help as mentioned above. Plead your case and see if they will will do it over the phone. At least you'll get it from the horses mouth if this were true.

You should try to call them. Their web site still has the demo up for download, the link works, I tried it.

Here is the procedure for activating via phone:
Activate by using the telephone
You can telephone an Activation Center to obtain the help of a customer service representative and activate the product. Telephone activation might take longer than activation through the Internet. You should be at the computer when you call. Additionally, you should have your software product key. When you select this option, the Activation Wizard generates an Installation ID. You musy have this Installation ID to activate the product by telephone.

Important When you telephone the Activation Center, you are prompted to read the Installation ID numbers. If you have problems following the guidelines over the telephone, do not hang up. Wait until you receive an option for transfer. Say “transfer me.” You will be redirected to speak with the customer service representative.

Note Activation Center numbers are not listed in this article because telephone contact numbers vary by license and also by country or region. The Activation Wizard gives you the number to telephone the Activation Center.

Did it generate a number for you call? If so, try it  Wink

I found the FSX activation problem yesterday.

I recently installed a Western Digital HDD. To use the capacity of this drive WD had to install a fix to get past the XP 137GB limit.

That has been my primary boot drive.

I saved the original smaller drive as a secondary boot drive.

I switched to that drive and the activaton ran as it should.

So I do have FSX running on my computer again.

There is some kind of problem with the FSX activation dialog and the WD capacity fix. I am having this problem on two computers.

Twice the FSX activaion dialog has damaged the boot partiton that has the capacity fix.

I Googled about FSX activation problems and it appeared there are a lot of people having similar problems.

What's important here is the fact that for some reason the FSX activation dialog is incompatible with a high capacity WD HDD.

I believe you siad you could install it on your smaller HDD and it would work.
Have you tried leaving the smaller one as your Primary with FSX on it and the? and the larger WD HDD as a secondary? I know this isn't what you wanted, but hey, if it works at least you can have FSX and lots of storage too.

I installed FSX Acceleration on my wifes laptop last night just to see if it worked. No problems to report.

You said you are trying to install on an external device?

I'm pretty sure that FSX can not be installed on an external HD. It needs to be on a bootable device Smiley

The drives I have a problem with are drives that have Western Digital's fix to get past XP's 137GB HDD size limit.

In my case i will make the smaller boot drive the primary boot drive and use the screwed up one for emergencies.

I Googled "FSX activation" problems. And read a lot about other people having similar problems.

Twice when I tried to activate FSX on the large disk the next time I booted the computer CheckDisk came up trying to fix problems. So bad that I had to do a system restore.

My FSX installation is on a logical partition. The validation information is saved on the boot partition.

I have had this same problem on two computers that have large WD HDDs.

This weekend I plan to try installing it on my notebook that only has a small drive.

I just replaced my old PC (AMD Dual core, 2gig Ram) with a new AMD A6 Quad core, 12 gig Ram.
Now I backed up everything from the old PC to my 1T external HD first, including FSX.
When installing FSX on the new PC I had to activate it using the phone. For Acceleration...It had all kinds of errors.
I actually forgot about the External HD with FSX on it. FSX runs perfectaly from the external HD.  Wink

Sorry if i lead you into a goose hunt, ref.
/yabb?num=1361098690

You dont need to partionate your hd to get fsx running!
You need to get it activated. M$ stopped all suply for their products concerning Flight Simulators, but a phone call, in a polite manner (sorry to say so), could make wonders!
Try it Wink
