* CONTEST *
THE NEW YEAR SCREENSHOT CONTEST
It's time to get this contest rolling again......the theme is wide open and the prize is bragging rights this time. If the turnout is good we'll try to get another contest along a bit after this one closes. If there is enough building activity in these new contests to warrant it......... maybe we can eventually go monthly again.
Show us what you've got, no theme, just your imagination. Remember though, ONLY FREEWARE AIRCRAFT ARE ALLOWED. BUT ENVIRONMENT OR SCENERY ADD ONS MAY BE PAYWARE due to the difficulty of uninstalling global enhancements for the purpose of taking one shot.
Remember, be original, be creative and good luck!
* We would also ask if you could post a link or mention where you got the freeware items from.
Please don't post links to payware products.
* Remember to support SimV when you can!

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

* RULES *
THE RULES
Contest Starts January 15, 2013 and Ends February 25, 2013.
Below are the guidelines for Simviation's Screenshot Contest.
Any questions or comments should be directed to a judge and will be answered at the earliest available opportunity.
Any contestant judged to have violated these rules will have his entry removed and be disqualified.
1.
This contest will run from
January 15, 2013 until February 25, 2013.
Entries submitted after Midnight on February 24, 2013 EST will not be accepted. Judging will occur after February 25, 2013 EST and the
10 Finalists will be entered into the POLL
that will be posted soon after! Now the Members will cast their vote in the Poll to determine this month's winner!
2. The Simviation Monthly Screen Shot Contest is
OPEN TO ANYBODY
who wants to test their skills! Whether you are a newbie or an avid Simviation poster, we want to see what you got! Please be honest and do not start creating new accounts that result in duplicate or multiple screenshot entries under different usernames. IP addresses will be tracked!
3.
All images Must BE NO WIDER THAN 1024 AND NOT MORE THAN 155KB IN WEIGHT!
No cropping, editing or adjusting your shot!! Any images over 155 kb in weight, and wider than
1024
will not be VALID! This rule is now being enforced since
This is a Screenshot Contest and we "want to see the RAW shot!"
All entries must be uploaded to SimV.
4.
ONLY ONE ENTRY PER MEMBER!
Each contestant must start their own thread in the Screenshot Contest forum with their shot!
Your
entry must be included in this thread.
5. Screenshots from Flight Gear, FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, FSX & CFS series only please!!
6. Once an entry is submitted, it may not be changed or replaced. This is to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to maintain forum integrity. Entries may be withdrawn from the contest, but no additional entries from that member will be accepted.
7.
Entries may be of freeware aircraft only! Environment and scenery add ons may be payware
8. Entries may not be edited in any way. Any entry discovered to have been edited will be disqualified and the image removed from the contest.
9. All images must be produced specifically with the intent of entering them in this contest. No screenshots previously posted images or pre-contest images will be accepted.
10. After the contest has ended and the judges have decided on the "Finalists", a "POLL" type thread will be started entitled, "Screenshot Finalists, Vote Now!" It will explain that the Poll will be closed within 48 hours. You must note the
Post Time
of this thread to know when it will close! This will allow the members to now vote for their favorite shot from the ones the judges have picked!
11. After 48 hours from the time the Finalist Announcement is made, the POLL will be closed and the Winner announced!

Come on guys! This is really fun when a lot of people do it, some of us have waited more than a year for this to come back! Just post a photo, nothing bad can happen, and you would get some tips from some really good people to help you improve for next months!

The fact I can't even use REX makes this contest un-enterable. It's simple not worth the effort of uninstalling all of my scenery addons for a area to take a shot. I think 90% of people at least use REX these days so why not just allow it.

I dont know if you saw what happened with the last contest but there was a huge argument about using it and stuff. My shot that i entered was on my computer at school (yes We use fsx) that's why i had to use Default Everything

The idea is currently under consideration by mods and admin..........I think allowing REX would definately simplify the process, but we'll see what the consensus is

The thing about using rex is,it's unfair on those who can't afford it.
With REX you can make shots like Chuck's which blow pretty much everyone who doesn't have REX shot's out of the water.

While using REX may seem unfair, if that is keeping a lot of people from entering the contest then maybe REX should be allowed as long as Bragging Rights are the only prize. I've seen some FS9 screenshots that are better than REX in some ways so it's all a matter of just getting the right shot. After all it is supposed a fun contest and what fun is there if no one enters. I view this a more of a social activity than a 'must win' event. Just so you know, I do not have REX.

There are freeware alternatives to REX. Such as combining
HDE Clouds and Sky
with custom ENB Bloom settings and
FSWC
. Members such as JetProp have great success with creating beautiful environment colors and water textures with no payware:

Yes of course.
But maybe we can have a payware and a freeware winner?
It'd be only slightly more work.
Like have payware and freeware finalists and have 2 seperate polls for them?
Just make sure to mention that you HAVE to say wether payware or freeware is used in the title to make it easier for the judges to see.
I think this would be a decent solution.
PS:thanks for the credit chuck.

Thanks for making this contest Chuck79. One question though, are we allowed to take the Screenshot in 1920x1080 and then resize to the proper requirements? I saw it said no editing, some people consider resizing/cropping to be editing, some don't. I don't want to break any rules here.
Cheers!

Hello Glenn, yes of course you can do that. We just don't allow editing to the image thru photo software to enhance the shot
Resizing is allowed!

No cropping, but resizing to 1024 pixels wide and 155k max is OK.

Looks like I'm not allowed to post the Photo [IMG] string I submitted for the contest. I have not posted the required 5 posts to qualify for that option.
