Hi,
I am about to upgrade to FSX Deluxe edition with X Pack Accelerator option.
I have read a few confusing posts about X Pack so I would like a bit of advice on
If it’s worth installing and what sort of improvements would be noticed over the plain
FSX install.
My system is;
Windows XP Pro.
Version 2002
Service pack 2
AMD Athlon II x 250
3.12 Gig RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 2010
1Gig. memory
Regards ,

I assume you're talking about acceleration.
I don't have a good system (only 1.83Gz, and 1GB ram) and it gave my an ~3-5 fps increase,
and an F/A-18, P-51, EH-101, I like it a lot.
as for scenery, not much new I've seen besides working carriers and better water.
I would recommend it if you want to go into carrier ops, air racing/stunt shows, or advanced helicopter
flight. Besides that, it doesn't add much besides slightly better frame rates.
A good add-on I found for carrier ops is AI-Carriers2, it let's you spawn any ship wherever you want,
and somewhere in SimV archives is an AI-CArriers ready Hi-Def Nimitz
if you want it don't get the deluxe and Acceleration,
get the gold pack, costs as much as FSX by itself and includes Deluxe and Acceleration.

Can't comment on the higher frame rate - personally I didn't notice this. I did however try to install Acceleration on an "elderly" system (note you mention a 2002 version of XP) and had to disinstall it since FSX wouldn't start at all. Acceleration seems to be resource hungrier than plain FSX, since that ran OK (and continues to run) on the "elderly" setup.
Having said that, it is almost worth having it for the F-18 carrier stuff alone! And if, as Skyhawk says, it boosts frame rates, check you rates before and after installation to see what gain you get.
Gold pack definitely gives you the best bang for a buck.

I agree, best part is carrier ops...
You won't forget the feeling you get after your first successful carrier landing with full realisim
Very rewarding
