I have the  Gold version and when the game freezes it usually either starts the game by itself, or completely freezes so I have to exit the game by using the Task Manager.  What's the difference between the two?  I 've read somebody mentioned heat problem?

Try another power and graphic intense 'game'  If it doesn't crash/lockup then it's unlikely to be heat problem.

Try either renaming the fsx.cfg file or even delete it.
You may lose your control settings and any graphic quality settings you have done.

FSX will recreate a basic .cfg file, if it runs, it was the original fsx.cfg file, if you rename the file then you could do a compare between the 2 to see what was causing the problem.

May the Mynd be with you.
So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs, but that is due to change Smiley

Thanks EVVFCX,
yes I don't think it's a heat problem.  I also noticed the game froze/locked up more often in Real Time weather mode.  I guess I'll have to live with it.

I have the HP Elite HPE-501F, here's the spec:

AMD Phenom x4 3.2Gh
4MB DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 6770 1GB (came with the machine)
Hitachi 1TB 7200 rpm hard drive
Window 7 64-bit.

Also I always play in Realistic Weather mode (update every 15 minutes).

Thanks.

FSX is a real memory guzzler, and I wonder if your 4MB of system memory (RAM) is sufficient to run the Sim, and any background programs at the same time.
I find that I have to run a "Game Booster", or "End-it-all program", to reduce the number of background programs running, to make more memory available when I run my FSX with insufficient memory available.

My system runs FS 2004 perfectly with my available memory, but generates all sorts of problems, (CDT, reset, OOM, etc,) if I try to run FSX with certain high settings, and without cancelling many background programs!

The rest of the Components, Processor, Graphics, etc, look fine!

Isn't there a do not pause on task switch somewhere?
I'm wondering if it's the weather update thats causing it.
Try it with fixed weather and stay flying within one region so your not switching between weather stations.

And on my Xp system I have only 2 GB, 1gb video card and it runs OK, 3.2ghz P4.

PS: I thought real weather updates were no longer working as Jepperson had pulled the 'plug'
