Hi!

The Cascade Soaring Society is a small glider club based out of Pangborn Memorial, a quite busy little airfield near Wenatchee in Washington State south east of Seattle I think.

A few pics from a very short flight taking off from runway 30.  No thermals just up and down.

Many thanks for looking,

Great Shots! I have never tried the gliders in my fs, something new to try tomorrow.

I have no place to go and all day to get there.

Hi!

Many thanks for the replies!  Yes gliding in FS is a lot of fun for me.  So far I have not been able to see any thermals using real world weather, I'll have to look into how to do that.

The scenery in the pics is acuatlly Orbx PNW.  I think I instaleed it ok but that area looks very different to most areas in PNW which are more green.

Anyway thanks very much for the replies!

Great shots of my back yard Wink
I live 96 miles (by road) North of Pangborn.

Eastern and Western Washington are two entirely different regions. Western WA is practically a rain forest while Eastern WA is in the rain shadow of the Cascades. Very dry. I would describe it as high desert. We have an abundance of trees, but they are all evergreens or other very hardy species here.....lots of tamarack, cedar, pine etc. In Western WA, anything and everything grows Wink
Sometimes it's hard to believe that Eastern and Western WA are in the same state Cheesy Grin

BTW
It looks to me like your OrbX scenery is not properly installed.

This is what it should look like;

Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Hi!

Many thanks for the comment and also the information about the different regions in Washington State.  I had no idea that part of it looked desert-like!  Have you ever heard of the Cascade Soaring Society in real life?

Your shots of Orbx in that region also look really nice.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  Orbx definitely works in Friday Harbor (even though it took me a while to figure out I needed .Net 3.5!).  But I think these airports aren't covered in my PNW.  Here is an excerpt from my coverage map:

Anyway many thanks for the reply and info "from the real place"!!  I look forward to maybe visiting there some day!

Pierre

P.S. If you're interested I uploaded a very basic "mission" for Fsx today which is a short trip from Pangborn to Lake Chela(though you're probably sick of flying in your own back yard!). It should be in flghtsim library sometime soon anyway for what little it's worth!!

For Glider Enthusiasts...

..as an aside, in the Sim V Library there is a wide selection of Glider Soaring scenery for FS 2004, consisting of special clouds designed to give "lift" to aircraft as you pass near them.
The special shaped Clouds (triangular) surround you.

I just use the special clouds, and position my Gliders anywhere I wish to use them.

The effect can also be used for engined aircraft!

They are inserted in the add-on Scenery Folder, and can be enabled or disabled as required.

Hi!

Many thanks for the replies.

Regarding the Orbx scenery thanks.  I did have a look on the website but wasn't sure if Pangborn was PNW or not.  Now I will have to spend more money I don't have!!

Regarding the thermals I do remember such files for Fs2004, they worked pretty well as far as I remember.  I think or maybe I suspected that Fsx could actually generate thermals itself from the weather like in the Minden Field mission.  It would be nice to do some cross-country flights or going round and round in a circle for hours in Fsx though!

Many thanks,

Pierre

I'll check out your mission.....I never get tired of sim flying in Washington state........it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth.......and Lake Chelan is one of the most outstanding landmarks in the state Wink

Hi!

Many thanks.  I know many people don't like missions and it's kinda basic.  It runs a bit boring with default FsX that I wrote but with Orbx it might be just about bearble (very sorry)..

Many thanks,

Pierre
