I have taken a break from model making for a while and moved onto something bigger
After a 2000 Km round trip (in 48 hours.......I would never ever swap and be a long distance trucker) from North Germany to the North of England a rough looking 1977 MGB roadster sits in the summer sun in front of my garage. Should keep me out of trouble and out of the the pub for a while, though she may well cause me to take to drink at some point
Now the work has truly began. The strip down. I took the wings off expecting the corner of death to be eating the sills away, but not a flake of rust was found.

With UK traffic being what it is now, I shall never use it, or any other motor-car, again!
...2-wheeled Motor Bikes/Scooters/Cycles are the only way to beat the traffic jams now!
You would have had fun with my 1932 Vintage, Brooklands Riley 9, 1087cc, 1-1/2 seater, GP racing car...now sold to someone in Germany a few years ago*.

One of our guys at WACO has some vintage car called a 'Spitfire', it looks a lot like this, are they related or something?
Forgive me, I have never been a car person.
Matt, if you want to see rust, drive a 23 year old Honda in Michigan! Michigan EATS cars alive very fast.

An Allegro, I would have to wear dark glasses and a fake beard to even be seen in one......
As for your Riley, that truly is a stunning car, and you are right, British racing green is the only way to go. Saying that, my MGB is not, she is Brooklands racing green. A little more blue in the green I am told. Buggered if I can tell the difference

There is a difference Matt, if you've ever owned a British Racing Green car you'd spot it straight away. BRG is several shades darker. My Dolly Sprint was BRG with gold pipping. God but she was a fabulous little motor! I still regret getting rid of her.... one of the best and most reliable cars I ever owned.

My Riley 9 was hand painted British Racing Green, using Coach Paint..a really dark green...with spoked, knock-on wheels, and large, bright red brake drums, and with Union Flags on the rear-end!
..and a real Vintage Racing experience!

I had a Dolly Sprint when I was 19 years old. I could only get insurance for third party, no fire or theft. I joined the RAF a while later and had to sell her. I could no longer afford the parts and petrol

I will be able to get her put on an "H" plate (historic) and get very cheap insurance and road tax. However this is linked to the condition of the car. Any restoration has to be original, using parts that would have been available at the time of production. Parts made today to the same spec as the original even when improved with modern processes and materials are allowed so that makes an MG (or spitfire) quite cheap to own and run.
