I have been using snap view with my hat switch for so long I don't remember how to switch to pan view. Does anyone know about this. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Have a look in the control settings buttons/keys, there is a snap to view option there, is that what you was thinking of? only snap to view I use is the straight ahead with panel view one which by default is shift + spacebar

May the Mynd be with you.
So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs, but that is due to change Smiley

On pan view you'l need to select the hatswitch as your button.

It should work in VC mode and you'll be able to look around, also on external views you will be able to change what area you are looking at.

I have pan view working Ok now. Is there any way to slow it down. Just a slight push on the hat switch causes the view to move quite a bit. And it's hard to control.

Try and play a little with PANRATE inside fsx.cfg (hidden).
I got mine at
PANRATE=200

In FSX, pan rates are set in the [CameraDefinition.xx] sections. For global camera views (VC, Spot, etc.) these are in the 'Cameras.cfg' file, found in the same folder as your 'FSX.cfg' file. For custom cameras, for individual aircraft, they are found in the 'aircraft.cfg' file.

Example: to adjust the pan rate for the VC, open the Cameras.cfg file and goto;

[CameraDefinition.002]
Title = Virtual Cockpit
Guid = {C95EAB58-9E4A-4E2A-A34C-D8D9D948F078}
Description = This is the description of the virtual cockpit view.
Origin = Virtual Cockpit
MomentumEffect = Yes
SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
SnapPbhReturn = False
PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
PanPbhReturn = False
Track = None
ShowAxis = YES
AllowZoom = TRUE
InitialZoom = 0.7
SmoothZoomTime = 2.0
ZoomPanScalar = 1.0
ShowWeather = Yes
XyzAdjust = TRUE
ShowLensFlare=FALSE
Category = Cockpit
PitchPanRate=30
HeadingPanRate=75
PanAcceleratorTime=0
HotKeySelect=1

Adjust the.....

PitchPanRate=30
HeadingPanRate=75

Values from 0.0 to 100.0-specifies degrees per second.

If you have the SDK installed, you can get more information on cameras in the 'fsxsdk.chm' help file, under 'core utilities kit'.

Alright Dave, sounds like what I am looking for. I'll check it out and let you know what I find. It will be nice to look around like I am turning my head and not jerking my head around.

I went to cameras.cfg and lowered the numbers pitchpanrate and headingpanrate. They were set at 30 and 70 respectfully. I went down as far as 5 and 20 and didn't notice any difference in the pan speed. Should I be increasing these numbers? I am thinking that what I am trying to accomplish may be a function of the joy stick hat switch programming. I am using a Saitek X52. Does anyone know if the pan speed can be adjusted on this joystick?

Works fine for me. I use an X-45, without any specific (Saitek) drivers. In FSX Settings/Controls my assignment is-View(pan), joystick=POV1, Repeat rate slider full right.

In Cameras.cfg, for pan rate smaller values produce slower pan rate.

Things to check:

You must restart FSX for the change to take effect.

Make sure you're editing the right file. In W7-C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Cameras.cfg (same location as your working FSX.cfg.)  Not the Cameras.cfg in the main FSX folder, that's a backup\fallback file.

Use a default aircraft to avoid the chance that an add-on ac may have a camera definition that over rides the global definition.

Make sure your changes are being saved (the changes remain after closing and re-opening the file), i.e.- not blocked by Windows UAC.

Using a Saitek X52 you hafta adjust the calibration slider on the key assignment selection screen.

I have mine set all the way left and have a very smooth controllable pan which actually moves proportinate to how far I move the hatswitch....a little is slowish and full-on is near snap-like.

My slider only takes all the way to the right, Half way or all the way to the left. If I set it all the way to the left the pan only moves one click at a time no matter how far I push the hat switch. What am I doing wrong?
