Hi guys,
I purchased REX 2.0 from flightsimstore back in Dec.  I just checked my account with them and it looks like I'm able to get Essential for free because I already have 2.0.

My question is, do I have to uninstall REX 2.0 before installing Essential or can I have both programs installed?

Also, I'm using Active Sky 2012 and was wondering if anyone has compared the weather engine in Essential to AS2012?

Thanks

Well I haven't use Active Sky but it is a pretty much known fact that there is nothing as comprehensive, good looking and solid as REX.

I haven't tried Essential, still waiting for the overdrive version but I understand you might need to uninstall what you have before you install Essential.

I MAY BE WRONG.

I strongly suggest you pop in over @

http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/

That is where you would find the official support forum, which could safe you much effort and possibly from messing up your entire FSX.

Good luck  Smiley

Apparently not. If you do not have overdrive and your REX 2.0 is of a certain version your good to go from what ive read so far,,,,

Hey guys,

I have both, Active sky 2012 and Rex essential.

It may sound odd but it's the best of both worlds, I started off with active sky and it was great, but not enough eyecandy for me, plus Rex is more realistic but you can't beat active sky for having accurate weather, plus historical weather. If you fly at midnight you can have the weather from the evening if you go back in time. It's great. Active sky for me had a simpler layout, just my opinion.

I now use active sky for the precise conditions but Rex essential to make it feel precise. They work fine together.

Hope this helps

I just installed REXess myself. You have to make sure your REX is version 2.3.2010.1027. I had 2.5.2010.1027, so I had to uninstal everything and reinstal REX without the OD package, to get to the 2.3 version.
If your version of REX is lower then 2.3.2010.1027, you have to update it with the corresponding update fromt he REX forums.

On top of the page where you can download REXess upgrade for REX2 is a link to 2 pdf files, one called PREUPGRADE PROCEDURES and one called UPGRADE PROCEDURES and those will guide you through the whole process.

Thank you for the help everyone.  I can't wait to try it out.  I will keep AS2012 for weather control but use textures from Essential.  Can't wait to try this out when I get the time to download it.  My download speed is very slow.

Thanks again Smiley
