WEIRD OR WHAT...
I got thinking after typing out my reply to today's post by Fozzer "Paul" about another of his wonderful meals.
It is odd what folks do for fun.
Take today for example, there must be thirty little aluminum, fiberglass or wood boats on the river with folks of all ages fishing.
They are sitting in their vessels with snowmobile suits on, there is not one boat I see that has a top on it and there they sit in the rain.
Bobbing up and down amongst the whitecaps on the river, moderate winds and patiently waiting for some fish to swim along and jump into their boat...darn odd or weird if you ask me...

Now two avid lady birdwatchers told us at the afternoon tea in the commons room yesterday they will be out all weekend come rain, snow, sleet or hail to watch some birds down in a swampy area about a hour drive from here.
They have gone and it is cold, damp and raining.
To sit in a swamp and watch for birds is, well odd, weird or what.

The military scuba diving club is doing a dive today, we counted about thirty or more of them by the river bank.
What fun is there in going underwater when it is cold, damp and raining out. All those little fishing boats would give me second thoughts to that hobby whether one puts out a dozen diving flags or not.
I think those people...well they are just weird...

Then there are those folks about twelve cars and half ton trucks sitting at the end of the military runway waiting for the aircraft to come and go.
We counted that many when we went to Canadian Tire for plant food. Old girls idea, not mine. If you can't eat it why grow it?...

What do they see in a bunch of aluminum going up and down...got me...I think they are nuttier than the birdwatchers.

Now...folks need some direction in their lives in my opinion.
Why do they not come out to a bug smasher field and look at some rag and tube aircraft with the odd aluminum spam can thrown in?
They can have a coffee, tea, pop, chocolate bar or chips.
There are comfortable chairs to sit in also and look at aircraft pictures.
They will take home with them many things.
First and foremost, knowledge. Who knows more about aviation than a bunch of Old Rocking Chair Retired Flying Geezers.

Yes, we chew the rag, we do not stretch the truth telling our stories (unless the other guy does) and we are happy to enlighten new folks.
Clothing style, well that is something else.
You should see the way some of these fishermen, bird watchers and airplane spotters dress. HUH...no class.
Where else would one see a good looking gentleman wearing farm green coveralls and rubber boots, or a doctor, lawyer or Indian Chief wearing blue jeans and wool plaid shirts of various colors and with matching coats.
Right here at the bug smasher field, that is where.

Spiced up coffee or tea, the smell of grand cigars or a good pipe tobacco all adds to the atmosphere of the club house.
Now mind you there are a few things one has to watch.
First you don't just go and sit at the Bull Shit Table unless invited....no sir....that is a no no.

However once we get to know you, well you become part of the gang.
The knowledge and information one consumes from just listening to our Tall Tales (I mean flying experiences) will last most folks a lifetime.
So with all this to offer, why would anyone want to do anything else?

Especially, fishing, bird watching, scuba diving or aircraft spotting, folks that do that, well I think they are weird or what...

Cheers...Doug
