I've seen this one before..........someone repackages the open source freeware simulator called Flight Gear (Which is available free through SimV) and tries to make money from it. Shameful really Huh  Although technically I don't thinkk it's illegal.... it's just very wrong and the people who do it should be ashamed of themselves Angry

Here's a couple links for anyone who wants to try Flight Gear without getting ripped off:

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Tecnically it is illegal because he's selling something that's copyrighted as freeware distribution only. The creators of FG can take legal measures against the scammers and they would win...

Wonder who these guys are saying its the best ever?

" Has Every Single Airport In The World! "

By Gary Huber
Midlothian, United Kingdom

"The amazing thing about VirtualPilot3D is that it has every single airport in every single city in every single state in every single country in every single continent!

It has wonderful, scenery, very realistic flying. It will definately take a long time for you to truly explore the entire world. In fact, you may need to clear your diary for a few weeks!"

" Play The Game And The Ordinary World Disappears! "

By Joe Dodson
Port Orange, FL

"Great game! You can fly just about any aircraft you want, you can land and take off from almost any airport in the world, you can get a real sense of what it's like to pilot these craft in the real world minus the g-force and nausea...

It does take time to master the controls, but once you've made that breakthrough you have many, many hours of rewarding gameplay. Play the game and the ordinary world disappears!"

Wonder how many fall for it and actually buy it? Bet they make a mint before they clear off, there does seem to be an awful lot out there i see on the various forums and sites that just gush praise at the slightest little thing FS wise no matter what it is.

Sad really, but you can see why they do it. Some of these developers get full of themselves, everythings 'secret' , they release 'titbits' which of course are 'awesome' and 'we cant wait' - 'members areas' , 'VIP things' - and yes i realise they want to make money but they also tell us they are 'hard up' and 'do it purely for love' - come on!!

When i buy payware i buy it because i want to, not to massage someones ego, or because they are 'obviously hard up', and i dont buy it to be then treated like s%$£ on some support forum by the demi gods that inhabit this strange world.....!

Im self employed, and my customers dont use me because im 'awesome' or 'hard up' they use me because they want to or have to..! If things go wrong they expect immediate action, not a load of BS, after all, they PAY me!

It looks like these guys have cottended on to this strange phenomenon - just read the blurb on there site........and, to quote die hard "  and by the time they figure out what went wrong, we'll be sitting on a beach, earning twenty percent...."

Fascinating !!

Actually it's not illegal.

From the Flightgear Website:

Quote:
Is it legal to sell a copy of FlightGear, whether re-branded or not?

Yes, provided the seller is in compliance with a number of conditions detailed in the GPL. In fact, those interested in receiving a DVD containing FlightGear may do so through the main FlightGear website, and directly contribute to the project (though they may want to wait for the upcoming release in the new year).

Quote:
Why do the FlightGear developers allow this?

The freedom to modify and enhance FlightGear is a core part of the project, and of open-source in general. Restricting the modifications that are allowed and what people can do with the software goes against that ethos.

http://wiki.flightgear.org/ProFlightSimulator

So it's not illegal just immoral.

I'm sympathetic to that ...

Look at facebook. People can be sheep. Sheep are not known for their thinking ability but they are known for their tendancy to follow what the other sheep are up to. People can be idiots on mass.

God knows why on earth Flightgear allows 'selling' of it's freeware product .. That's the astounding bit to me  (if there aren't other elements that kill that argument..) Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Yeah Pete, people in general are baaaaaad (an ovine pun) at showing individuality and we don't need to (nor do I want to) get on Facebook to see it.

Actually I was communicating with one of the core developers of Flightgear in order to get permission to host the base files here on this site.

I'll see if I can find those emails and ask him about the subject of other people 'selling' their dedicated work.
