First and foremost, I have seen your charity thread, Ozzy (and payday is in a few days  Wink )

But that thread, and a few other things, has really sparked my interest in doing something charitable. I'm in to mountain biking at the moment, so a cross-country type event would be quite cool.

I'm just wondering if you know of any charities who specifically do that type of event, but also with a freedom to choose the supported charity too?

I am thinking about supporting the Jon Egging Trust, which provides inspirational events for people who are not succeeding in formal education, and it will give them an opportunity to experience aviation and develop other skills.

As it is Jon Egging, a ride which goes past RAF stations might be quite fitting.

As for the charity side of things, I take it the one used by Ozzy is a free service, or low comission?

Do you have any ideas for this? It's early on, I know, but I might as well get started!

My current ideas are as follows:
RAF Leeming - RAF Cranwell (111 miles)
RAF Valley - DCAE Cosford (123 miles)

The distances are a bit off due to motorways, etc.

Cheers

The British Heart Foundation used to do an annual off-road across the Kent Downs, they have three distances, 25, 50 and 100 miles if I remember correctly (we've been discussing this as next years event, either that or Devizes/Westminster Canoe Race).
I'll have a dig around for you, meanwhile you could do worse than look at their website, they've got a few lined up for the rest of the year http://www.bhf.org.uk/get-involved/events/bike-rides.aspx

Thank you!

I'll have a look around and see what's best for me. And tomorrow I will try and up it to about 10 miles and see how that goes.

For anyone who has done races/events before... Do you train for the full distance, or practise going only part of the length of the course? I know people practise full lengths for marathons, etc, but for longer races?

I'd always train to just over the distance, just to build up stamina. It'll be tough enough on the day without being properly prepared Wink
