Welcome yet again screenshot fans, heres a few of the much maligned DC-10 what i have taken Smiley

"McDonnell Douglas DC-10"

"The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is a three-engine widebody jet airliner manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. The DC-10 has range for medium- to long-haul flights, capable of carrying a maximum 380 passengers. Its most distinguishing feature is the two turbofan engines mounted on underwing pylons and a third engine at the base of the vertical stabilizer. The model was a successor to McDonnell Douglas's DC-8 for long-range operations, and competed in the same markets as the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar, which has a similar layout to the DC-10."

...

"Following an unsuccessful proposal for the US Air Force's CX-HLS (Heavy Logistics System) in 1965, Douglas Aircraft began design studies based on its CX-HLS design. In 1966, American Airlines offered a specification to manufacturers for a widebody aircraft smaller than the Boeing 747 but capable of flying similar long-range routes from airports with shorter runways. The DC-10 became McDonnell Douglas's first commercial airliner after the merger between McDonnell Aircraft Corporation and Douglas Aircraft Company in 1967."

...

"On January 8, 2007, Northwest Airlines retired its last remaining DC-10 from scheduled passenger service, replacing it with an Airbus A330 for a route between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Honolulu, thus ending the aircraft's operations with major airlines. Regarding the retirement of Northwest's DC-10 fleet, Wade Blaufuss, spokesman for the Northwest chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association said, "The DC-10 is a reliable airplane, fun to fly, roomy and quiet, kind of like flying an old Cadillac Fleetwood. We're sad to see an old friend go."

...

"The KC-10 Extender is a military version of the DC-10-30CF for aerial refueling. The aircraft was ordered by the U.S. Air Force and delivered from 1981 to 1988. A total of 60 were built. The KDC-10 is an aerial refueling tanker for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. These were converted from civil airliners (DC-10-30CF) to a similar standard as the KC-10. Also, commercial refueling companies Omega Air and Global Airtanker Service operate two KDC-10 tanker for lease. Four have been built."

...

"The airliner’s introduction to service was not without problems. In 1972, American Airlines Flight 96 suffered an explosive decompression when a cargo door failed. The accident investigation revealed that the design of the locking mechanism was to blame. Despite the design flaw being clearly identified as the cause of the accident, no compulsory repair order was issued by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA). That compulsory repair order came two years later – after the loss of another 365 lives – when the cargo door lock of Turkish Airlines Flight 981 failed and the door detached mid-flight.

1979, Also the year of the Erebus disaster, was the DC-10s annus horribilis. American Airlines Flight 191 literally lost an engine after it separated from the wing pylon a couple of seconds before take-off in Chicago. The separated engine caused substantial damage to the wing, severely compromising the aircraft’s ability to remain airborne. All on board died when the aircraft exploded on impact one minute after take-off.

After the accident, examinations of other DC-10 aircraft detected cracks in the wing pylons. The FAA grounded the fleet worldwide. It was later determined than improper maintenance techniques by American Airlines and Continental Airlines resulted in metal fatigue which led to the engine separation.

Despite its checkered introduction, over the long term, the DC-10 has proved to be an extremely reliable aircraft, with a fantastic safety record."

...

"In the early 1980's, Mcdonnell Douglas Co. realised that a successor to the venerable DC10 was needed for the company to stay in business. However with a global recession nothing was able to be done. When things picked up again in the mid 80's, the company had another look at a DC10 successor and launched what is the MD11 in December 1986. 446 DC10's were built between 1970 and 1988 and for a short time work was being done on both the final DC10's and first MD11's. Trials using a leased Continental DC10 were conducted in 1981. The final MD11 built was for Lufthansa Cargo and left the Long Beach plant in June 2000. All in all, only 200 were built. Whilst they have been a disappointment for many passenger operators, the MD11 does make an excellent freighter. After many passenger operators have finnshed with them , the cargo airlines snap them up for freighter conversion. "

Many thanks for looking, enjoy and C+C most welcome Smiley

Ahhh, you have found the CLS DC-10! I love flying this one! As always, you brought out the best in your shots!

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

Yeah, i had the fs2004 version (and even did repaints for it!) Its not much cop in the cockpit but i guess with CLS thats what you expect, cept there 747 of course which was pretty good. But its a nice package, looks good i think and is nicely detailed.

Thnx for the comments Wink
