Back in '54 Stromberg Carlson made a wide variety of 21" TV's with really great cabinets with doors that closed up to conceal the screen.  Dad bought one in '54, problem was that it looked great but the picture tube would fail on a periodic basis.  If the insides were as good as the outsides, well, that would've be nice.

It was on that TV that I saw Sky King and whatever else was popular back then.

Their TV's are collectibles nowadays, but like all things from the deep, dark, distant past, I got rid of the unit after my folks passed on.  Talk about a well-constructed cabinet, I almost couldn't take it apart.  I disposed of the cabinet it during my "Get rid of anything that no longer functions" days long ago.  Dad had already taken out the insides, but I now regret getting rid of it.

BUT, I saved the doors, a beautiful Chinese motif set, the one with a yellow background, and hung them up as wall decor in the living room, so the best part of the cabinet is still with me.  No way anyone would throw out those doors.  Hand-painted in bas-relief, just gorgeous.

Stromberg Carlson TV catalogs are published online now, they really had great looking TV's back then.

Anyone remember an 80's show called 'Tales of the Gold Monkey'?  It was only on briefly but as I recall it was something like Indiana Jones with an airplane.  The only scene I recall (and only in part) is a glass (maybe it was a bottle) of water being marked horizontally with lipstick and being used as an emergency attitude indicator.

You mean this --> Opening Credits

That's the one! Thanx Hagar!  I was only a bear in the Cub Scouts when that was on!
