It's actually a Focke-Wulf Stieglitz. I've been lucky enough to have a flight in one. Cool https://picasaweb.google.com/111776794913843321815/StieglitzFlight

Great shots. Wink

Wasn't the Focke-Wulf Stieglitz the German equivalent of the Tiger Moth?

You must have missed it. I'm sure I posted pics at the time. It was a long time ago now.

Yes it's a shame about the Bestmann. I read that the new owner was badly hurt.

Unfortunately, the owner and pilot will not be taking to the skies again. That aircraft was part of the same club that the Stieglitz is in, based at the airport I work at, although at the time the club "Quax" was in Hamm. The accident report is here, you will need to run it through a translator program. No real problem was found with the aircraft, however it was the first flight after maintenance. Most people I have spoken to (a good friend is a member) think it was fuel starvation on take off. Why it then flew the course it did and not land ahead seems to be another question. The pilot has 6000 hours on Airbus for Lufthansa, and old timers, so experience was not a question. Unfortunately, he cannot recall the crash.
