Not a quiz... I just want to know! It was in the back of the Naval Aviation museum in Pensacola. They had the wings, and engine/prop off to the side. Big radial engine.

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

If the wings shown in the background are an indication my guess would be an SBD Dauntless.  It has a unique design to the speed brakes, much like those shown in the view of the wings.  Also, the legnth of the cockpit/gunner station would also indicate a Dauntless.

That seems like a good guess. Looking at pictured of the Dauntless I do see something different. The front windscreen  (whatever its called) is angled at the base on this aircraft. On the Dauntless it does look similar, but is straight at the base of the windscreen. Perhaps it was changed later in production?

It looks like a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver aka "Son of a B--ch 2nd Class"

You know, after looking some more, this looks an awful lot like an SB2 Helldiver. It too had the same type of flaps as the Dauntless.

Im on their website as we speak. I'm not 100% sure its a Dauntless but it was my guess as well. Looking at the exhibit picture on their site vs the image here, the cocokpit area looks the same but the wing attaching area seems higher in the pic here vs the pic at the museum site where its low to the fuselage. Have a look for yourself and compare.

Aircraft in ABC order,Right side toward bottom.

Mike

Possibly A Bucaneer or A Vindicator?

Going by the windscreen it's a Helldiver.

If this is the aircraft that was mentioned in the article, yes, indeed they do plan to restore it!
