When I try to install FSX (for the first time) I get an error 1722 towards the end of the install process, right after the installer shows the "registering fonts" message.
I have run MS's tool resetsdls.exe, as per MS KB instructions re this problem, and it didn't change a thing.
No other suggestions found with Google (not that I've found many) worked as well.
Before giving up I figured I asked you guys.
OS: Windows XP Professional SP3
Thanks

Its because you don't have the patience to give FSX 2 simple 5 minute tweaks and download some freeware enhancers like HDE clouds,HDE sky,ENB bloom and ORBX.

I have spent about 4 years with FSX,2years where on low settings and I didn't do anything with tweaks and better clouds etc,1 year was HDE clouds etc and this year I started applying the 2 tweaks, from then on my FSX looks good and runs at 20 withouth ENB and 12-17 with ENB on medium-high settings. Cool

Thank you guys for the warm welcome back, expecially you Foz, my old pal and twin prop fellow.
FS9 is still here, sitting firmly on my hard drive, don't worry.
It's just that I have little or no time to fiddle with it now, what with the baby and all (yes! father of a wonderful little girl).
I had the chance to grab a copy of FSX for peanuts and I was eager to try it since MS Flight runs surprisingly smooth on my old single core machine (thanks to the above-average gfx card, methinks).
Now, back on to my problem...  Grin

I know everybody moans about it, but I directed my original FSX installation to; C/ "Program Files", the same as I do with all my installations.

With full Administrator Rights on my Win 7, 32-bit, Home Edition, PC, I have never experienced any problems whatsoever, including installing any subsequent add-ons to FSX... Smiley...!

It's not a major problem if it doesn't work now, since I (hopefully enough) will be upgrading my rig in a short while.
But it baffles me.
I'm not quite sure about the suggestion about Java, where does it come into play while installing FSX, and namely while registering fonts with the OS? Anyway I am running the bleeding edge stable version for x86.
And the user I am installing FSX as is a member of the local Administrators group.
Some dude on the Internet suggested to kill the task right after the error message, in order to prevent the rollback actions, and see if FSX starts because the font registration is supposedly the last action the installer performs. If everything else fails, I could end up trying this Hail Mary countermeasure.
