The most obvious answer is the QNH at Funchal  wasn't 1013/29.92, hence your altimeter was incorrectly set.

QNH was set at 29.92 for fenchal (local) I even flew a cessna at 100 ft above sea level ( couldnt go any lower) then i landed at fenchal and my altimeter still read 720 feet on the tarmac.....if for instance i sit on the tarmac at east midlands (EGNX) and set the altimeter to 29.92 it read 310 feet which is correct according to pooleys....

In FSX LPMA is poorly done, no doubt to accommodate the poor terrain elevaton map.

The airport elevation listed in the FSX map is 711ft.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.          Igor Sikorsky

You know....you can just rip up a to-do list.

Isn't Funchal built partially on stilts on the side of a hill on the sea front. Probably explains it then.

That aside, you shouldn't be flying in Europe on 29.92 (or in.Hg) anyway! Grin
