The RNZAF Retired the Skyhawks in 2001 after they had a massive upgrade. The government at that time also cancelled the order for their replacement, the F-16.

The RNZAF operates 6 of these for maritime patrol.

They were only going to be on static display but the RNZAF Mechanics managed to get one flying for the Air Show.
