I never carry any change, just a few quarters in the car, always use plastic for everything these days, so no penny build up here, and no real opinion. But would like to see some opinions/comments on this.

I am a Cdn - Residing in the U.S. and will drop my two cents into the dialogue.
Frankly, the penny is/was an arbitrary marketing/pricing gimmick - in short it was a cents less death......as one Canadian said, we will now hear the term "Nickle Back" more than ever" Oh god, please let the cruelty stop....it's bad enough we gave the world Celine Dion, now we have to add to the mockery by encouraging another horribly useless musical group by way of a political move to save 11 Million loonies....(not the population of Canada by the way.....)

, or 5.5 "twonies"
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d2/Toonie_-_front.png/220px-Too...
I wonder what I can do with all my retirement pennies now?
Some additional humour..(or humor) can be found here....

I won't miss the penny much. You can't buy anything for a penny anyway. I have about 300$ worth stashed in pickle jars. Rumor is out that a 5 dollar coin is the next move. The US should lose the penny too. They just don't serve the same purpose that they did fifty years ago.
The downside may be a few mining jobs lost and those donation jars by the till may suffer.

They should have got rid of the penny years ago.
I am also waiting for them to get rid of those overpaid Senators in the Canadian Senate.
Most of the time they are either sleeping or not there.
Ban the bunch of them.
Another opinion ...dam good budget the Prime Minister brought down...did not go far enough on cutting Foreign Aid as in my opinion all Foreign Aid should have been cut until us Seniors receive a pension good enough to live on without having to rely on our retirement pension we paid into when we retired.
With Foreign Aid gone our children going on to university would not have to pay so much and our military could be built to defend this country withour help from NATO or anyone else.
Just some added thoughts...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

We don't need the Senate,
we don't need the penny,
and now our government doesn't make any cents!

Good one Steve...
I will say the Prime Minister we have now has got the country going in the right direction again better than what the NDP "No Defence Policy" Party or the lying Liberals could have done...
Will not get any more political than that...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I never carry money which is under 50 pence (so 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p, 1p... If you don't understand our currency and need to see how many denominations there are). It's basically shrapnel, and you can't buy much for it. I keep it in a box, and then take it to the bank and they give me real money for it.
I would happily say goodbye to the 1p. I think 5p is the smallest coin which is actually used. It annoys me when adverts try to sell a product with amazing offers such as "New 50" TV for just £999.99". Yeah, I really need the penny back on that
I would rather have a 1p tax on 99p products, and have the money go towards turning this economy back around. The money in my jar is mostly 20ps, and I've racked up about £120 in a year. That was a good night to go out partying

I don't get it,how DID he become famous???
Only girls aged 6-12 with a bad music taste like him,how does that last?
Well, actualy,it doesn't,in my class none of the girls who used to like him listen to him at all, some of us even forgot about him!
PS:
I think his hair looks like a coconut.

We sent Justin, Celine, and Nickleback across the borders to break you down, slow and painfull.
It is our gift to you, so please keep them.
One thing the penny is good for is, when you burn out a fuse you can jam a penny in there..
If someone asks you for spare change..
Making it sound like you dropped a fortune in the offering plate at church..
And without pennies it's going to cost you a nickel to make a wish.
Flying with twins is a lot of fun..

See what the article doesn't say is that the Canadian penny will be leaving Canada and they will all be sent to Buffalo, NY. I swear 90% of the money in Buffalo is Canadian...

In the 80's or 90's NZ lost the 1 & 2 cent coins & in about 2006 we lost the 5 cent coin.
machineman, I believe the reason that some things are $999.99 is because that sounds less than $1000.
jetprop, I agree with you about Justin Bieber, his singing is awful.

At this point in time, I'll welcome most any tender; today I added two pennies to my dollar amount so I'd get back two dimes in return (rather than a dime, nickel and three pennies)...
Also, I think we (U.S.) should keep our pennies in circulation -- it's rather nice for someone else to be officially more centsless than we are.
