Good afternoon folks... Smiley

This post was brought on after I looked at an aircraft picture in the below Forum.

Graphic Gallery>Simviation Screenshot Showcase>
Couple of Morning Randoms by Mike

My old grey matter started to kick in... Grin

Here is a Link you might find interesting:

http://ftpcabair.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/gear-etc-v73.pdf

The Dunlop-Marstrand "Twin Contact" Anti-Shimmy Tyre is what I noticed on the Bristol Beaufighter in Mikes Screenshot.

The Anti-Shimmy Designs were used on many many aircraft such as:
Hawker Tempest
AVRO Lancaster
Bristol Beaufighter
Handley Page Halifax

The information in the Link is in a very simple format and very informative.

Anti-Shimmy Designs like the Marstrand Tyre
Chined Tyre fitted to nosewheels for use on wet runways
Block Tread for use on non-paved surfaces
Ribbed Tread for use on paved surfaces

Hope you find the Link informative... Smiley

And

It shows how lucky we are to have developers for our hobby go into so much detail on their designs.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Chine tyres are very useful on aircraft with fuselage mounted engines; not as much on those with them dangling from the wings! Grin
